EARLI: design of a laser wakefield accelerator for AWAKE
/ Minenna, D F G (IRFU, Saclay) ; Ballage, C (LPGP, Orsay) ; Bencini, V (CERN) ; Bethuys, S (Thales Alenia Space France, Cannes La Bocca) ; Cros, B (LPGP, Orsay) ; Dickson, L (LPGP, Orsay) ; Doebert, S (CERN) ; Farmer, J (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) ; Gschwendtner, E (CERN) ; Jeandet, A (Thales Alenia Space France, Cannes La Bocca) et al.
Following the successful Run 1 experiment, AWAKE has developed a program for Run2 that requires designing and implementing a compact electron source (150 MeV, >= 100 pC) for external injection. The baseline design uses a S- and X-band RF photo-injector gun system. [...]

EuPRAXIA – a compact, cost-efficient particle and radiation source
/ Weikum, M K (DESY) ; Akhter, T (INFN, Naples) ; Alesini, P D (LNF, Dafne Light) ; Alexandrova, A S (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Plasma accelerators present one of the most suitable candidates for the development of more compact particle
acceleration technologies, yet they still lag behind radiofrequency (RF)-based devices when it comes to beam quality,
control, stability and power efficiency. The Horizon 2020-funded project EuPRAXIA (“European Plasma Research
Accelerator with eXcellence In Applications”) aims to overcome the first three of these hurdles by developing a
conceptual design for a first international user facility based on plasma acceleration. [...]

The Horizon 2020 Project EuPRAXIA (European Plasma Research Accelerator with eXcellence In Applications) is producing a conceptual design report for a highly compact and cost-effective European facility with multi-GeV electron beams accelerated using plasmas. EuPRAXIA will be set up as a distributed Open Innovation platform with two construction sites, one with a focus on beam-driven plasma acceleration (PWFA) and another site with a focus on laser-driven plasma acceleration (LWFA). The Horizon 2020 Project EuPRAXIA ('European Plasma Research Accelerator with eXcellence In Applications') aims at producing a design report of a highly compact and cost-effective European facility with multi-GeV electron beams using plasma as the acceleration medium. The accelerator facility will be based on a laser and/or a beam driven plasma acceleration approach and will be used for photon science, high-energy physics (HEP) detector tests, and other applications such as compact X-ray sources for medical imaging or material processing. MASS-SAT: Matter-antimatter space spectrometer on satellite
/ Basini, G (Frascati) ; Candusso, M (Frascati) ; Massimo Brancaccio, F (Frascati) ; Ricci, M (Frascati) ; Bocciolini, M (Florence U. ; INFN, Florence) ; Spillantini, P (Florence U. ; INFN, Florence) ; Wang, Y F (Florence U. ; INFN, Florence) ; Bongiorno, F (Rome U.) ; de Pascale, M P (Rome U., Tor Vergata ; INFN, Rome2) ; Morselli, A (Rome U., Tor Vergata ; INFN, Rome2) et al.
The MASS-SAT Experiment (Matter-Antimatter Space Spectrometer on SATellite) presented here is conceived to search for an experimental answer to many open problems related to both Astrophysics and Physics, through the detection of positrons, antiprotons, nuclei and, overall, antinuclei if they exist. Among these problems there are the hypothesized presence of antigalaxies in the Universe (the matter-antimatter symmetry problem), the existence of black holes as possible antiproton sources (the Hawking effect), the existence of photinos as antiproton sources (related to the dark-matter problem), the understanding of the mechanism of cosmic-ray acceleration in the interstellar medium, the determination of the relative abundancies of isotopes in cosmic rays and many others.
