Beam-based commissioning of a novel X-band transverse deflection structure with variable polarization / González Caminal, P (DESY) ; Christie, F (DESY) ; D'Arcy, R (DESY) ; Jaster-Merz, S M (DESY) ; Assmann, R (DESY) ; Burkart, F (DESY) ; Conrad, B (DESY) ; Dinter, H (DESY) ; Foese, M (DESY) ; Herrmann, J (DESY) et al.
Longitudinal electron-beam diagnostics play a critical role in the operation and control of x-ray free-electron lasers, which rely on parameters such as the current profile, the longitudinal phase space, or the slice emittance of the particle distribution. On the one hand, the femtosecond-scale electron bunches produced at these facilities impose stringent requirements on the resolution achievable with the diagnostics. [...]

EuPRAXIA – a compact, cost-efficient particle and radiation source / Weikum, M K (DESY) ; Akhter, T (INFN, Naples) ; Alesini, P D (LNF, Dafne Light) ; Alexandrova, A S (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; Liverpool U.) ; Anania, M P (LNF, Dafne Light) ; Andreev, N E (Lebedev Inst. ; Moscow, MIPT) ; Andriyash, I (SOLEIL, Saint-Aubin) ; Aschikhin, A (DESY) ; Assmann, R W (DESY) ; Audet, T (LPGP, Orsay) et al.
Plasma accelerators present one of the most suitable candidates for the development of more compact particle acceleration technologies, yet they still lag behind radiofrequency (RF)-based devices when it comes to beam quality, control, stability and power efficiency. The Horizon 2020-funded project EuPRAXIA (“European Plasma Research Accelerator with eXcellence In Applications”) aims to overcome the first three of these hurdles by developing a conceptual design for a first international user facility based on plasma acceleration. [...]

Experimental demonstration of novel beam characterization using a polarizable X-band transverse deflection structure / Marchetti, B (DESY ; European XFEL, Hamburg) ; Grudiev, A (CERN) ; Craievich, P (PSI, Villigen) ; Assmann, R (DESY) ; Braun, H H (PSI, Villigen) ; Catalan Lasheras, N (CERN) ; Christie, F (DESY) ; D'Arcy, R (DESY) ; Fortunati, R (PSI, Villigen) ; Ganter, R (PSI, Villigen) et al.
The PolariX TDS (Polarizable X-Band Transverse Deflection Structure) is an innovative TDS-design operating in the X-band frequency-range. The design gives full control of the streaking plane, which can be tuned in order to characterize the projections of the beam distribution onto arbitrary transverse axes. [...]

Anomaly Detection for Beam Loss Maps in the Large Hadron Collider / Valentino, Gianluca (CERN ; Malta U.) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN) ; Rossi, Roberto (CERN) ; Theodoropoulos, Panagiotis (CERN) ; Jaster-Merz, Sonja (Hamburg U.)
In the LHC, beam loss maps are used to validate collimator settings for cleaning and machine protection. This is done by monitoring the loss distribution in the ring during infrequent controlled loss map campaigns, as well as in standard operation. [...]
