The axion is a hypothetical, well-motivated dark-matter particle whose existence would explain the lack of charge-parity violation in the strong interaction. [...]

Stable wormholes in scalar-tensor theories / Franciolini, Gabriele (Geneva U., CAP ; CERN) ; Hui, Lam (Columbia U.) ; Penco, Riccardo (Carnegie Mellon U.) ; Santoni, Luca (Columbia U.) ; Trincherini, Enrico (Pisa, Scuola Normale Superiore ; INFN, Pisa)
We reconsider the issue of whether scalar-tensor theories can admit stable wormhole configurations supported by a non-trivial radial profile for the scalar field. Using a recently proposed effective theory for perturbations around static, spherically symmetric backgrounds, we show that scalar-tensor theories of "beyond Horndeski" type can have wormhole solutions that are free of ghost and gradient instabilities. Effective Field Theory of Black Hole Quasinormal Modes in Scalar-Tensor Theories / Franciolini, Gabriele (Geneva U., CAP ; CERN) ; Hui, Lam (Columbia U.) ; Penco, Riccardo (Carnegie Mellon U.) ; Santoni, Luca (Utrecht U.) ; Trincherini, Enrico (Pisa, Scuola Normale Superiore ; INFN, Pisa)
The final ringdown phase in a coalescence process is a valuable laboratory to test General Relativity and potentially constrain additional degrees of freedom in the gravitational sector. We introduce here an effective description for perturbations around spherically symmetric spacetimes in the context of scalar-tensor theories, which we apply to study quasi-normal modes for black holes with scalar hair. Measurement of the dipole in the cross-correlation function of galaxies / Gaztanaga, Enrique (ICE, Bellaterra) ; Bonvin, Camille (CERN) ; Hui, Lam (ISCAP, New York)
It is usually assumed that in the linear regime the two-point correlation function of galaxies contains only a monopole, quadrupole and hexadecapole. Looking at cross-correlations between different populations of galaxies, this turns out not to be the case. [...]

Optimising the measurement of relativistic distortions in large-scale structure / Bonvin, Camille (CERN) ; Hui, Lam (ISCAP, New York) ; Gaztanaga, Enrique (ICE, Bellaterra)
It has been shown recently that relativistic distortions generate a dipolar modulation in the two-point correlation function of galaxies. To measure this relativistic dipole it is necessary to cross-correlate different populations of galaxies with for example different luminosities or colours. [...]

The First Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey / SDSS Collaboration
The Sloan Digital Sky Survey has validated and made publicly available its First Data Release. This consists of 2099 square degrees of five-band (u, g, r, i, z) imaging data, 186,240 spectra of galaxies, quasars, stars and calibrating blank sky patches selected over 1360 square degrees of this area, and tables of measured parameters from these data. The 3D Power Spectrum from Angular Clustering of Galaxies in Early SDSS Data / SDSS Collaboration
Early photometric data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) contain angular positions for 1.5 million galaxies. In companion papers, the angular correlation function $w(\theta)$ and 2D power spectrum $C_l$ of these galaxies are presented. [...]

KL Estimation of the Power Spectrum Parameters from the Angular Distribution of Galaxies in Early SDSS Data / SDSS Collaboration
We present measurements of parameters of the 3-dimensional power spectrum of galaxy clustering from 222 square degrees of early imaging data in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. The projected galaxy distribution on the sky is expanded over a set of Karhunen-Loeve eigenfunctions, which optimize the signal-to-noise ratio in our analysis. [...]
