EuPRAXIA – a compact, cost-efficient particle and radiation source / Weikum, M K (DESY) ; Akhter, T (INFN, Naples) ; Alesini, P D (LNF, Dafne Light) ; Alexandrova, A S (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; Liverpool U.) ; Anania, M P (LNF, Dafne Light) ; Andreev, N E (Lebedev Inst. ; Moscow, MIPT) ; Andriyash, I (SOLEIL, Saint-Aubin) ; Aschikhin, A (DESY) ; Assmann, R W (DESY) ; Audet, T (LPGP, Orsay) et al.
Plasma accelerators present one of the most suitable candidates for the development of more compact particle acceleration technologies, yet they still lag behind radiofrequency (RF)-based devices when it comes to beam quality, control, stability and power efficiency. The Horizon 2020-funded project EuPRAXIA (“European Plasma Research Accelerator with eXcellence In Applications”) aims to overcome the first three of these hurdles by developing a conceptual design for a first international user facility based on plasma acceleration. Emittance Preservation in an Aberration-Free Active Plasma Lens / Lindstrøm, C.A. (Oslo U.) ; Adli, E. (Oslo U.) ; Boyle, G. (DESY) ; Corsini, R. (CERN) ; Dyson, A.E. (Oxford U.) ; Farabolini, W. (CERN) ; Hooker, S.M. (Oxford U. ; JAI, UK) ; Meisel, M. (DESY) ; Osterhoff, J. (DESY) ; Röckemann, J.-H. (DESY) et al.
Active plasma lensing is a compact technology for strong focusing of charged particle beams, which has gained considerable interest for use in novel accelerator schemes. While providing kT/m focusing gradients, active plasma lenses can have aberrations caused by a radially nonuniform plasma temperature profile, leading to degradation of the beam quality. [...]

Overview of the CLEAR plasma lens experiment / Lindstrøm, C.A. (Oslo U.) ; Sjobak, K.N. (Oslo U.) ; Adli, E. (Oslo U.) ; Röckemann, J.-H. (DESY) ; Schaper, L. (DESY) ; Osterhoff, J. (DESY) ; Dyson, A.E. (Oxford U.) ; Hooker, S.M. (Oxford U.) ; Farabolini, W. (CERN) ; Gamba, D. (CERN) et al.
Discharge capillary-based active plasma lenses are a promising new technology for strongly focusing charged particle beams, especially when combined with novel high gradient acceleration methods. Still, many questions remain concerning such lenses, including their transverse field uniformity, limitations due to plasma wakefields and whether they can be combined in multi-lens lattices in a way to cancel chromaticity.
