Transverse-target-spin asymmetry in exclusive $\omega$-meson electroproduction / HERMES Collaboration
Hard exclusive electroproduction of $\omega$ mesons is studied with the HERMES spectrometer at the DESY laboratory by scattering 27.6 GeV positron and electron beams off a transversely polarized hydrogen target. The amplitudes of five azimuthal modulations of the single-spin asymmetry of the cross section with respect to the transverse proton polarization are measured. [...]

GEANT4 studies on the propagation and detection of scintillation light in long thin YAP crystals / Ciocia, F (INFN, Bari) ; Braem, A (CERN) ; Chesi, E (CERN) ; De Leo, R (INFN, Bari) ; Joram, C (CERN) ; Lagamba, L (INFN, Bari) ; Nappi, E (INFN, Bari) ; Séguinot, J (CERN) ; Vilardi, I (INFN, Bari) ; Weilhammer, P
The response to γ-rays of long thin polished or wrapped YAP:Ce scintillator bars read out at both edges by photomultipliers has been studied by means of GEANT4 simulations with the aim to investigate the capability of the charge division method to reconstruct the gamma interaction point in the crystal. The GEANT4 simulations took into account the optical properties of the scintillator like absorption, reflection, and diffusion during the passage of the light through the crystal. [...]

AX-PET : A novel PET detector concept with full 3D reconstruction / Braem, A (CERN) ; Joram, C (CERN) ; Séguinot, J (CERN) ; Dissertori, G (Zurich, ETH) ; Djambazov, L (Zurich, ETH) ; Lustermann, W (Zurich, ETH) ; Nessi-Tedaldi, F (Zurich, ETH) ; Pauss, F (Zurich, ETH) ; Schinzel, D (Zurich, ETH) ; Solevi, P (Zurich, ETH) et al.
We describe the concept and first experimental tests of a novel 3D axial Positron Emission Tomography (PET) geometry. It allows for a new way of measuring the interaction point in the detector with very high precision. [...]

Development of a High Precision Axial 3-D PET for Brain Imaging / Bolle, E (Oslo U.) ; Braem, A (CERN) ; Casella, C (Zurich, ETH) ; Chesi, E (Ohio State U.) ; Clinthorne, N (Michigan U.) ; Cochran, E (Ohio State U.) ; De Leo, R (INFN, Bari) ; Dissertori, G (Zurich, ETH) ; Djambazov, L (Zurich, ETH) ; Honscheid, K (Ohio State U.) et al.
We describe a PET device based on a novel method to extract the coordinates of the interaction point of the 511 keV γ rays from 100 mm long and thin LYSO (Lutetium Yttrium OxyorthoSilicate) scintillator bars, positioned axially in the tomograph. The coordinate along the hit crystal is measured by using a hodoscope of Wave Length Shifting (WLS) plastic strips mounted perpendicularly to each plane of scintillators. [...]

Scintillator studies for the HPD-PET concept / Braem, D (CERN) ; Chesi, Enrico Guido (CERN) ; Ciocia, F (INFN Bari) ; De Leo, R (INFN Bari) ; Joram, C (CERN) ; Lagamba, L (INFN Bari) ; Nappi, E (INFN Bari) ; Séguinot, Jacques (CERN) ; Vilardi, I (INFN Bari) ; Weilhammer, P (CERN)
The spatial, energy, and time resolutions of 10 cm long polished YAP:Ce and LYSO:Ce crystals have been measured. The work is part of the novel HPD-PET concept, based on a full three-dimensional, free of parallax errors, reconstruction of the γ-ray interaction point in 10–15 cm long scintillators. [...]

Recent Results with a segmented Hybrid Photon Detector for a novel parallax-free PET Scanner for Brain Imaging / Braem, André (CERN) ; Chesi, Enrico Guido (CERN) ; Joram, Christian (CERN) ; Mathot, Serge (CERN) ; Séguinot, Jacques (CERN) ; Weilhammer, Peter (CERN) ; Ciocia, F (INFN Bari) ; De Leo, R (INFN Bari) ; Nappi, E (INFN Bari) ; Vilardi, I (INFN Bari) et al.
We describe the design, fabrication and test results of a segmented Hybrid Photon Detector with integrated auto-triggering front-end electronics. Both the photodetector and its VLSI readout electronics are custom designed and have been tailored to the requirements of a recently proposed novel geometrical concept of a Positron Emission Tomograph.
