The new Batch Mode Ion Source for stand-alone operation at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) / Sumithrarachchi, C S (Michigan State U., East Lansing (main)) ; Liu, Y (Michigan State U., East Lansing (main)) ; Rogers, S N (Michigan State U., East Lansing (main)) ; Schwarz, S (Michigan State U., East Lansing (main)) ; Bollen, G (Michigan State U., East Lansing (main)) ; Gamage, N (Michigan State U., East Lansing (main)) ; Henriques, A (Michigan State U., East Lansing (main)) ; Lapierre, A (Michigan State U., East Lansing (main)) ; Ringle, R (Michigan State U., East Lansing (main)) ; Yandow, I (Michigan State U., East Lansing (main)) et al.
Gas stoppers have been used for a long-standing successful science program at Michigan State University with stopped and rare-isotope beams produced by projectile fragmentation. The National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory’s Coupled Cyclotron Facility has recently transitioned into the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) laboratory to provide rare isotopes using a high-power superconducting linear accelerator and new production facilities. 12th International Symposium on Electron Beam Ion Sources and Traps and Their Applications - EBIST'14   18 - 21 May 2014  - East Lansing, MI, USA  / Lapierre, Alain (ed.); Schwarz, Stefan (ed.); Baumann, Thomas M (ed.)
The EBIST symposia date back to 1977 and have taken place every 3 to 4 years to specifically discuss progress and exchange ideas in the design, development, applications of electron beam ion sources and traps, and the physics with highly charged ions. The topics to be covered in 2014 are: - Progress and status of EBIS/T facilities, - Atomic spectroscopy of highly charged ions, - Charge-exchange and surface interaction with highly charged ions, - Charge breeding of stable and radioactive isotopes, - Nuclear physics with highly charged ions..

MATS and LaSpec: High-precision experiments using ion traps and lasers at FAIR / Rodriguez, D (Granada U.) ; Kowalska, M (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Scheidenberger, C (Darmstadt, GSI ; Giessen U.) ; Kreim, S (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Gomez-Hornillos, M B (Barcelona, Polytechnic U.) ; Aysto, J (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Dickel, T (Giessen U.) ; Geppert, C (Mainz U.) ; Novikov, Y N (St. Petersburg, INP ; St. Petersburg State U.) ; Tain, J L (Valencia U., IFIC) et al.
Nuclear ground state properties including mass, charge radii, spins and moments can be determined by applying atomic physics techniques such as Penning-trap based mass spectrometry and laser spectroscopy. The MATS and LaSpec setups at the low-energy beamline at FAIR will allow us to extend the knowledge of these properties further into the region far from stability. [...]

EBIS/T charge breeding for intense rare isotope beams at MSU / Schwarz, S (Michigan State Univ, Natl Superconducting Cyclotron Lab, E Lansing, MI 48824 USA.) ; Beiersdorfer, P (Lawrence Livermore Natl Lab, Livermore, CA USA.) ; Marrs, R E (Lawrence Livermore Natl Lab, Livermore, CA USA.) ; Kittimanapun, K (Michigan State Univ, Natl Superconducting Cyclotron Lab, E Lansing, MI 48824 USA.) ; Lapierre, A (Michigan State Univ, Natl Superconducting Cyclotron Lab, E Lansing, MI 48824 USA.) ; Mendez, A J (Oak Ridge Natl Lab, Oak Ridge, TN USA.) ; Ames, F (TRIUMF, Vancouver, BC V6T 2A3, Canada.) ; Beene, J R (Oak Ridge Natl Lab, Oak Ridge, TN USA.) ; Lindroos, M (CERN) ; Ahle, L E (Lawrence Livermore Natl Lab, Livermore, CA USA.) et al.
Experiments with reaccelerated beams are an essential component of the science program of existing and future rare isotope beam facilities. NSCL is currently constructing ReA3, a reaccelerator for rare isotopes that have been produced by projectile fragmentation and in-flight fission and that have been thermalized in a gas stopper. [...]
