The estimation of production rates of ${\pi }^{+}{K}^{-}$, ${\pi }^{-}{K}^{+}$ and ${\pi }^{+}{\pi }^{-}$ atoms in proton–nucleus interactions at 450 GeV c$^{-1}$ / Gorchakov, O E (Dubna, JINR) ; Nemenov, L L (Dubna, JINR)
Short-lived ($\tau \sim 3\times {10}^{-15}\,s$) ${\pi }^{+}{K}^{-}$, ${K}^{+}{\pi }^{-}$ and ${\pi }^{+}{\pi }^{-}$ atoms as well as long-lived ($\tau \geqslant 1\times {10}^{-11}$ s) ${\pi }^{+}{\pi }^{-}$ atoms produced in proton–nucleus interactions at 24 GeV c(–)(1) are observed and studied in the DIRAC experiment at the CERN Proton Synchroton. The purpose of this paper is to show that the yields of the short-lived ${\pi }^{+}{K}^{-}$, ${K}^{+}{\pi }^{-}$ and ${\pi }^{+}{\pi }^{-}$ atoms in proton–nucleus interactions at 450 GeV c(–)(1) and ${\theta }_{{\rm{lab}}}=4^\circ $ are estimated to be, respectively 67 ± 13, 31 ± 6 and 15 ± 2 times higher. Coupled channel analysis of $\pi^+ \pi^ -\pi^0$, $K^+ K^- \pi^0$ and $K^{\pm} K^0_S \pi^{\mp}$ from $\bar p p$ annihilation at rest in hydrogen targets at three densities / Bargiotti, M (Bologna U. ; INFN, Bologna) ; Bertin, A (Bologna U. ; INFN, Bologna) ; Bruschi, M (Bologna U. ; INFN, Bologna) ; Capponi, M (Bologna U. ; INFN, Bologna) ; De Castro, S (Bologna U. ; INFN, Bologna) ; Fabbri, L (Bologna U. ; INFN, Bologna) ; Faccioli, P (Bologna U. ; INFN, Bologna) ; Galli, D (Bologna U. ; INFN, Bologna) ; Giacobbe, B (Bologna U. ; INFN, Bologna) ; Marconi, U (Bologna U. ; INFN, Bologna) et al. /OBELIX
The $\pi^+ \pi^ -\pi^0$, $K^+ K^- \pi^0$ and $K^\pm K^0 \pi^\mp$ final states produced by $\bar p p$ annihilation at rest at three different hydrogen target densities have been analyzed in the frame of a coupled channel analysis together with $\pi \pi$, $\pi K$ and $K \bar K$ scattering data. The percentages of the different partial waves, the branching ratios and the parameters (masses, widths, $\pi \pi$ and $K \bar K$ partial widths) of all the involved resonances ($J^P = 0^+, 1^-, 2^+$) have been measured. Dynamical selection rules from $\overline{p}p$ annihilation at rest in three meson final states / OBELIX Collaboration
The hadronic annihilation branching-ratios in quasi-two-body final states have been obtained from the observation of the reactions pp to pi /sup +/ pi /sup -/ pi /sup 0/, K/sup +/K/sup -/ pi /sup 0/, K/sup +or-/ pi -or+K/sup 0/ at rest in hydrogen targets at different densities. The enhancement or suppression of specific hadronic channels connected to dynamical selection rules is observed in the production of different resonances both in protonium S and P-waves, systematically investigated for the first time. $\overline{p}p$ annihilation into four charged pions at rest and in flight / OBELIX Collaboration
The spin-parity analysis of the data on the pp to 2 pi /sup +/ 2 pi /sup $/annihilation reaction at rest in liquid and in gaseous hydrogen at 3 bar pressure and in flight at p momentum of approximately= 50 MeV/c, collected by the Obelix spectrometer at the LEAR complex of CERN, is presented. The relative branching ratios (a /sub 1/ (1260) to sigma pi )/(a/sub 1/(1260) to rho pi ) = 0.06 +or- 0.05 and ( pi (1300) to sigma pi )/( pi (1300) to rho pi ) = 2.2 +or- 0.4 are obtained. [...]

Study of anti-n p --> phi pi+ and anti-n p --> omega pi+ annihilation reactions in flight / OBELIX Collaboration
The results of a study of the annihilation reactions nbarp -> phi pi sup + and nbarp -> omega pi sup + are reported; the data were collected by the OBELIX apparatus, with antineutrons annihilating in flight (momenta from approx 50 MeV/c to 405 MeV/c). Annihilation frequencies and annihilation cross sections have been deduced, for both channels, as a function of antineutron momentum. [...]

Study of the $K^{+}K^{-} \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}$ final state in antiproton annihilation at rest in gaseous hydrogen at NTP with the OBELIX spectrometer / OBELIX Collaboration
A spin-parity analysis of a sample of pp to K/sup +/K/sup -/ pi /sup +/ pi /sup -/ pi /sup 0/ annihilation events taken at rest in gaseous H/sub 2/ at NTP is reported. The invariant mass spectrum of the K/sup +/K/sup -/ pi /sup 0/ system shows the presence of the E/t resonance pattern at 1.42 GeV. [...]

Single and multinucleon antiproton-$^{4}$He annihilation at rest / Montagna, P ; Bendiscioli, G ; Filippini, V ; Fontana, A ; Rotondi, A ; Salvini, P ; Panzarasa, A ; Bargiotti, M ; Bertin, A ; Bruschi, M et al.
The p annihilation at rest in a NTP /sup 4/He-gas target has been studied by means of the Obelix spectrometer installed at the LEAR accelerator of CERN. Reactions with production of 2 pi /sup -/2 pi /sup +/, 2 pi /sup -/3 pi /sup +/, 2 pi /sup -/2 pi /sup +/p, 2 pi /sup -/ pi /sup +/2p, 2 pi /sup -/3p (with p pi >80 MeV/c and p/sub p />300 MeV/c) have been selected and single- and multinucleon annihilations identified. Measurement of the $pd \to \phi n$ Pontecorvo reaction for antiproton annihilation at rest / OBELIX Collaboration
The results of an investigation of the Pontecorvo reaction pd to phi n with stopped antiprotons in a gaseous deuterium target at NTP are presented. A very selective dedicated trigger was used to collect a sample of about 8.5*10/sup 6/ annihilations. [...]

Up to now it has been observed that a fraction of about 3% of the p's stopped in a dense He target survives for a surprisingly long time (tens of microseconds). As suggested by Condo in 1964 the long lifetime of p's in He is explained by the existence of metastable states of the exotic atom pHe/sup +/. [...]

Contribution from S and P waves in pp annihilation at rest / OBELIX Collaboration
The annihilation frequencies of 19 pp annihilation reactions at rest obtained in different target densities are analysed in order to determine the values of the P-wave annihilation percentage at each target density and the average hadronic branching ratios from P- and S-states. Both the assumptions of linear dependence of the annihilation frequencies on the P-wave annihilation percentage of the protonium state and the approach with the enhancement factors of Batty (1989) are considered.
