A collaboration between DESY, PSI and CERN has been established to develop and build an advanced modular X- band transverse deflection structure (TDS) system with the new feature of providing variable polarization of the deflecting force. The prototype of the novel X-band TDS, the Polarizable X-band (PolariX) TDS, was fabricated at PSI following the high-precision tuning-free production process developed for the C-band Linac of the SwissFEL project. Status of the Polarix-TDS Project
/ Craievich, Paolo (PSI, Villigen) ; Aßmann, Ralph (DESY) ; Bopp, Markus (PSI, Villigen) ; Braun, Hans-Heinrich (PSI, Villigen) ; Catalán Lasheras, Nuria (CERN) ; Christie, Florian (DESY) ; D'Arcy, Richard (DESY) ; Dorda, Ulrich (DESY) ; Foese, Manon (DESY) ; Ganter, Romain (PSI, Villigen) et al.
A collaboration between DESY, PSI and CERN has been established to develop and build an advanced modular X-band transverse deflection structure (TDS) system with the new feature of providing variable polarization of the deflecting force. This innovative CERN design requires very high manufacturing precision to guarantee highest azimuthal symmetry of the structure to avoid the deterioration of the polarization of the streaking field. Longitudinal phase space reconstruction simulation studies using a novel X-band transverse deflecting structure at the SINBAD facility at DESY
/ Marx, Daniel (DESY ; U. Hamburg (main)) ; Assmann, Ralph (DESY) ; Craievich, Paolo (PSI, Villigen) ; Dorda, Ulrich (DESY) ; Grudiev, Alexej (CERN) ; Marchetti, Barbara (DESY)
A transverse deflecting structure (TDS) is a well-known device for characterizing the longitudinal properties of an electron bunch in a linear accelerator. The standard use of such a cavity involves streaking the bunch along a transverse axis and analysing the image on a screen downstream to find the bunch length and slice properties along the other transverse axis. [...]

Simulations of Electron-Proton Beam Interaction before Plasma in the AWAKE Experiment
/ Dorda, Ulrich (DESY) ; Aßmann, Ralph (DESY) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Grebenyuk, Julia (DESY) ; Petrenko, Alexey (CERN) ; Schmidt, Janet (CERN)
The on-axis injection of electron bunches in the proton-driven plasma wake at the AWAKE experiment at CERN implies co-propagation of a low-energy electron beam with the long high-energy proton beam in a common beam pipe over several meters upstream of the plasma chamber. The possible effects of the proton-induced wakefields on the electron bunch phase space in the common beam pipe region may have crucial implications for subsequent electron trapping and acceleration in plasma.
