Beam-based commissioning of a novel X-band transverse deflection structure with variable polarization / González Caminal, P (DESY) ; Christie, F (DESY) ; D'Arcy, R (DESY) ; Jaster-Merz, S M (DESY) ; Assmann, R (DESY) ; Burkart, F (DESY) ; Conrad, B (DESY) ; Dinter, H (DESY) ; Foese, M (DESY) ; Herrmann, J (DESY) et al.
Longitudinal electron-beam diagnostics play a critical role in the operation and control of x-ray free-electron lasers, which rely on parameters such as the current profile, the longitudinal phase space, or the slice emittance of the particle distribution. On the one hand, the femtosecond-scale electron bunches produced at these facilities impose stringent requirements on the resolution achievable with the diagnostics. [...]

High-Power Test of Two Prototype X-Band Accelerating Structures Based on SwissFEL Fabrication Technology / Millar, William L (CERN) ; Grudiev, Alexej (CERN) ; Wuensch, Walter (CERN) ; Lasheras, Nuria Catalan (CERN) ; McMonagle, Gerard (CERN) ; Zennaro, Riccardo (PSI, Villigen) ; Craievich, Paolo (PSI, Villigen) ; Bopp, Markus (PSI, Villigen) ; Lucas, Thomas G (PSI, Villigen) ; Volpi, Matteo (CERN ; Melbourne U.) et al.
This article presents the design, construction, and high-power test of two X -band radio frequency (RF) accelerating structures built as part of a collaboration between CERN and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) for the compact linear collider (CLIC) study. The structures are a modified “tuning-free” variant of an existing CERN design and were assembled using Swiss free electron laser (SwissFEL) production methods. [...]

The PolariX-TDS Project: Bead-Pull Measurements and High-Power Test on the Prototype / Craievich, Paolo (PSI, Villigen) ; Aßmann, Ralph (DESY) ; Bopp, Markus (PSI, Villigen) ; Braun, Hans-Heinrich (PSI, Villigen) ; Catalán Lasheras, Nuria (CERN) ; Christie, Florian (DESY) ; Citterio, Alessandro (PSI, Villigen) ; D'Arcy, Richard (DESY) ; Dorda, Ulrich (DESY) ; Foese, Manon (DESY) et al.
A collaboration between DESY, PSI and CERN has been established to develop and build an advanced modular X- band transverse deflection structure (TDS) system with the new feature of providing variable polarization of the deflecting force. The prototype of the novel X-band TDS, the Polarizable X-band (PolariX) TDS, was fabricated at PSI following the high-precision tuning-free production process developed for the C-band Linac of the SwissFEL project. Dark current analysis at CERN’s X-band facility / Banon Caballero, David (Valencia U., IFIC ; CERN) ; Boronat, Marça (Valencia U., IFIC ; CERN) ; Catalán Lasheras, Nuria (CERN) ; Faus-Golfe, Angeles (Orsay, LAL) ; Gimeno, Benito (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Lucas, Thomas (Melbourne U. ; CERN) ; Millar, William (Lancaster U. ; CERN) ; Paszkiewicz, Jan (U. Dark current is particularly relevant during operation in high-gradient linear accelerators. Resulting from the capture of field emitted electrons, dark current produces additional radiation that needs to be accounted for in experiments. [...]

Connection of 12 GHz high power RF from the XBOX 1 high gradient test stand to the CLEAR electron linac / Edwards, Amelia (Lancaster U. A new RF system is being established at XBOX1 to drive two 100 MV/m CLIC structures in the CLEAR electron linac. In the past, these structures had been powered by RF from PET structures excited by a drive beam. [...]

High power conditioning of X-band variable power splitter and phase shifter / del Pozo Romano, Veronica (CERN) ; Bursali, Hikmet (CERN) ; Catalán Lasheras, Nuria (CERN) ; Grudiev, Alexej (CERN) ; Pitman, Sam (CERN) ; Serpico, Claudio (Sincrotrone Trieste) ; Syratchev, Igor (CERN) ; Volpi, Matteo (Melbourne U. ; CERN)
The three X-band test facilities currently at CERN aim at qualifying CLIC structures prototypes but are also extensively used to qualify X-band components operation at high power. In order to upgrade one of the facilities from a single test line to a double test line facility, a high power variable splitter and variable phase shifter have been designed and manufactured at CERN. Redesign of CERN's Quadrupole Resonator for Testing of Superconducting Samples / del Pozo Romano, Veronica (CERN) ; Betemps, Robin (CERN) ; Gerigk, Frank (CERN) ; Illan Fiastre, Ricardo (CERN) ; Mikkola, Tommi (CERN)
The Quadrupole Resonator (QPR) was constructed in 1997 to measure the surface resistance of niobium samples at 400 MHz, the technology and RF frequency chosen for the LHC. It allows measurement of the RF properties of superconducting films deposited on disk-shaped metallic substrates. [...]

Initial Testing of Techniques for Large Scale Rf Conditioning for the Compact Linear Collider / Lucas, Thomas (Melbourne U. ; CERN) ; Boland, Mark (Saskatchewan U., CLS) ; Catalán Lasheras, Nuria (CERN) ; Giansiracusa, Paul (Melbourne U.) ; Grudiev, Alexej (CERN) ; Lefèvre, Thibaut (CERN) ; McMonagle, Gerard (CERN) ; Paszkiewicz, Jan (Oxford U. ; CERN) ; Rassool, Roger (Melbourne U.) ; Serpico, Claudio (Sincrotrone Trieste) et al.
Nominal operating conditions for the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) 380 GeV requires 72 MV/m loaded accelerating gradients for a 180 ns flat-top pulse. Achieving this requires extensive RF conditioning which past tests have demonstrated can take several months per structure, when conditioned at the nominal repetition rate of 50 Hz. [...]
