A New Boson with a Mass of 125 GeV Observed with the CMS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider / CMS Collaboration
The Higgs boson was postulated nearly five decades ago within the framework of the standard model of particle physics and has been the subject of numerous searches at accelerators around the world. Its discovery would verify the existence of a complex scalar field thought to give mass to three of the carriers of the electroweak force—the W+, W–, and Z0 bosons—as well as to the fundamental quarks and leptons. Observation of a new boson at a mass of 125 GeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC / CMS Collaboration
Results are presented from searches for the standard model Higgs boson in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7 and 8 TeV in the CMS experiment at the LHC, using data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of up to 5.1 inverse femtobarns at 7 TeV and 5.3 inverse femtobarns at 8 TeV. The search is performed in five decay modes: $\gamma\gamma$, ZZ, WW, $\tau^+ \tau^-$, and $b\bar{b}$. [...]

Efficiency of Finding Muon Track Trigger Primitives in CMS Cathode Strip Chambers / Acosta, Darin ; Adam, A ; Andreev, Valeri ; Apollinari, Giorgio ; Baek, Yong Wook ; Banicz, Karoly ; Barashko, Victor ; Barberis, Emanuela ; Bartalini, Paolo ; Bloch, Ingo et al.
In the CMS Experiment, muon detection in the forward direction is accomplished by cathode strip chambers~(CSC). These detectors identify muons, provide a fast muon trigger, and give a precise measurement of the muon trajectory. [...]

Two CMS production Cathode Strip Chambers were tested for aging effects in a high-radiation environment at the Gamma Irradiation Facility at CERN. The chambers were irradiated over a large area: in total, about 2.1m**2 or 700m of wire in each chamber. [...]

Design features and test results of the CMS endcap muon chambers / Acosta, D ; Apollinari, G ; Arisaka, K ; Blomqvist, J M ; Breedon, R ; Bondar, N ; Bonushkin, Yu ; Borissov, E ; Bujak, A ; Bylsma, B et al.
Presented are the main design features and performance results of the Cathode Strip Chambers for the CMS Endcap Muon system. Although the strips are unusually wide (up to 16 mm) for the cathode-to-anode wire distance of 5 mm, the six-plane structure of these chambers yields a spatial resolution of about 80 mum, essentially uniform and independent of the strip width.
