Transfer functions for $Q_A/Q_B$ international regulatory limits for the safe transport of radioactive materials / Frosio, Thomas (SLAC) ; Thomas, Samuel (IRSN, France) ; Endres, Janis ; Eberhardt, Holger ; Louis, Baptiste (IRSN, France) ; Cabianca, Tiberio ; Brown, Iain ; Foster, Matthew ; Menaa, Nabil (CERN) ; Bertreix, Philippe (CERN)
Abstract This paper presents a proposed revision of the International Atomic Energy Agency transport regulations, related to the A 1 and A 2 limit values used to determine the radioactive transport classification. Based on the ‘Q system’, a novel methodology was introduced to derive QA and QB values related to scenarios involving external exposure from a distant source. [...]

Radiological characterization for the disposal of a decommissioned LHC external beam dump at CERN / Infantino, Angelo (CERN) ; Harbron, Richard William (CERN) ; Mouret, Renaud (CERN) ; Bertreix, Philippe (CERN) ; Bernardes, Ana-Paula (CERN) ; Bruno, Luca (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Dumont, Gerald (CERN) ; El-Idrissi, Safouane (CERN) ; Magistris, Matteo (CERN) et al.
During the last Long Shutdown, a scheduled maintenance period between physics runs, the two Large Hadron Collider (LHC) beam dumps were replaced with upgraded spares modules. It was then decided to conduct an in-house autopsy and a post-irradiation examination of the removed dumps to extract information essential for the 3rd LHC physics run and to aid the design of new generations of beam dumps able to cope with future upgrades of the LHC. Production of innovative radionuclides for medical applications at the CERN-MEDICIS facility / CERN-MEDICIS Collaboration
Since its commissioning in December 2017, the CERN-MEDICIS facility has been providing non-conventional radionuclides for research in nuclear medicine. Benefitting from decades of experience in the production of radioactive ion beams and in the mass separation process from the ISOLDE facility at CERN, MEDICIS quickly became a worldwide key player in the supply of novel medical isotopes dedicated to research in the fields of cancer imaging, diagnostics, and radiation therapy. [...]

CERN-MEDICIS: A Review Since Commissioning in 2017 / MEDICIS Collaboration
The CERN-MEDICIS (MEDical Isotopes Collected from ISolde) facility has delivered its first radioactive ion beam at CERN (Switzerland) in December 2017 to support the research and development in nuclear medicine using non-conventional radionuclides. Since then, fourteen institutes, including CERN, have joined the collaboration to drive the scientific program of this unique installation and evaluate the needs of the community to improve the research in imaging, diagnostics, radiation therapy and personalized medicine. Calculation and benchmark of fluence-to-local skin equivalent dose coefficients for neutrons with FLUKA, MCNP, and GEANT4 Monte-Carlo codes / Frosio, Thomas (CERN) ; Bertreix, Philippe (CERN) ; Menaa, Nabil (CERN) ; Thomas, Samuel (IRSN, France)
Dose equivalent limits for single organs are recommended by the ICRP (International Commission for the Radiological Protection publication 103). These limits do not lend themselves to be measured. [...]

Photons fluence to local skin Dose coefficients and benchmark with three Monte-Carlo codes. Application to the computation of radioactive material transport limits / Frosio, Thomas (CERN) ; Bertreix, Philippe (CERN) ; Menaa, Nabil (CERN) ; Thomas, Samuel (IRSN, France) ; Eberhardt, Holger (Gesellschaft für Anlagen- und Reaktorsicherheit) ; Endres, Janis (Gesellschaft für Anlagen- und Reaktorsicherheit)
Fluence to Local Skin Dose Conversion Coefficients (LSD-CC) are radiological protection quantities used for external radiation exposures which allow the conversion of particle fluences into local skin equivalent dose. The International Commission on Radiological Protection published LSD-CC for electrons with an energy range from 10 keV to 10 MeV. [...]

Computation of radioactive material transport limits within A1/A2 Working Group at IAEA TRANSSC / Frosio, Thomas (CERN) ; Bertreix, Philippe (CERN) ; Theis, Chris (CERN) ; Donjoux, Yann (CERN) ; Cabianca, Tiberio (Public Health England, London) ; Brown, Iain (Public Health England, London) ; Foster, Matthew (Public Health England, London) ; Endres, Janis (Gesellschaft für Anlagen-und Reaktorsicherheit, Cologne) ; Eberhardt, Holger (Gesellschaft für Anlagen-und Reaktorsicherheit, Cologne) ; Hayakawa, Nobuhiro (MHI NS Engineering Company, Yokohama) et al.
IAEA's (International Atomic Energy Agency) publication SSG-26 defines a methodology for calculating A1/A2 values. These values were conceived as limits for the transport of radioactive goods, to limit the public's exposure to radiation in the event of an accident. [...]

An enhanced characterization process for the elimination of very low level radioactive waste in particle accelerators / Frosio, Thomas (CERN) ; Bertreix, Philippe (CERN) ; Magistris, Matteo (CERN) ; Menaa, Nabil (CERN) ; Michaud, Régis (CERN) ; Rimlinger, Maeva (CERN) ; Theis, Chris (CERN) ; Ulrici, Luisa (CERN) ; Zaffora, Biagio (CERN)
The elimination of very low level waste towards the French national repository requires their radiological characterization to estimate the radionuclide inventory and the associated activities within a waste package. Such characterization is performed by means of activation calculations and measurements. [...]

A novel technique for the optimization and reduction of gamma spectroscopy geometry uncertainties / Frosio, Thomas (CERN) ; Menaa, Nabil (CERN) ; Bertreix, Philippe (CERN) ; Rimlinger, Maeva (CERN) ; Theis, Chris (CERN)
Material activation can sometimes cause large heterogeneities in the distribution of radioactivity (hotspots). Moreover, the sample geometry parameters are not always well known. [...]

Monte Carlo simulations are a state-of-the-art method to calculate dose coefficients and could be used with the Q system for radioactive material packaging. These simulations often take a long time to converge with sufficient precision. [...]
