/ Ramos Garcia, Maria Teresa (CERN) ; Andreazza, William (CERN) ; Bestmann, Patrick (CERN) ; Bursali, Hikmet (CERN) ; Chritin, Nicolas (CERN) ; Devauchelle, Wilfried (CERN) ; Harrison, Anthony (CERN) ; Khatri, Ghanshyambhai (CERN) ; McLean, Mark (CERN) ; Pasquino, Chiara (CERN) et al.
The Beam Gas Ionisation (BGI) instrument of the Proton Synchrotron (PS), presently installed and operational, has been re-designed for the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS), the following machine along the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) injector chain at CERN accelerator complex. Using the same detection technology, Timepix3, the SPS-BGI infers the beam profile from the electrons created by the ionisation of rest gas molecules and accelerated onto an imaging detector. [...]

Impedance Reduction of the Beam Wire Scanners for the CERN LHC
/ Bursali, H (CERN) ; Andreazza, W (CERN) ; Flowerdew, J (CERN) ; Pasquino, C (CERN) ; Sullivan, H (CERN) ; Vollinger, C (CERN)
The beam wire scanners are instruments for precise transverse beam profile measurements by detecting the secondary particles generated from the interaction of the beam with a moving carbon wire. Following a completely new design of this device for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a detailed impedance calculation has been performed already in the design phase. [...]

Overview of beam intensity issues and mitigations in the CERN-SPS fast wire scanners
/ Veness, Raymond (CERN) ; Guerrero, Ana (CERN) ; Perez Fontenla, Ana Teresa (CERN) ; Harrison, Anthony (CERN) ; Salvant, Benoit (CERN) ; Zannini, Carlo (CERN) ; Antuono, Chiara (CERN) ; Vollinger, Christine (CERN) ; de la Fuente, Elena (CERN) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) et al.
A new design of fast wire scanner was installed in the CERN injector complex as part of the upgrades linked to the High-Luminosity LHC Project. Initial operations with these beams were good, but during the planned intensity ramp-up one early 2023, all four SPS scanners failed at the same time. [...]

Impedance and thermal studies of the CERN SPS wire scanners and mitigation of wire heating

All wires of the four CERN SPS rotational wirescanners broke when increasing the beam intensity towards the target for the LHC Injector Upgrade in 2023. Impedance and thermal studies were immediately launched, with simulations and measurements indicating that beam induced heating from resonant modes on the thin wire could be sufficient to cause these breakages. Impedance reduction of the beam gas ionization monitors for the CERN SPS
/ Bursali, Hikmet (CERN) ; Andreazza, William (CERN) ; Khatri, Ghanshyambhai (CERN) ; Ramos Garcia, Maria Teresa (CERN) ; Storey, James (CERN) ; Vollenberg, Wil (CERN) ; Vollinger, Christine (CERN)
The beam gas ionization monitors (BGIs) are non-destructive instruments to measure the transverse beam profiles. With the goal to double the beam intensity in the injector chain for the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC), any element contributing to the overall beam coupling impedance requires an in-depth impedance evaluation from the design stage.
