Radiation shielding studies for superconducting magnets in multi-TeV muon colliders
/ Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Amorim, David (CERN) ; Bottura, L (CERN) ; de Sousa, P Borges (CERN) ; Caiffi, B (INFN, Genoa) ; Calzolari, D (CERN) ; Carli, C (CERN) ; Ferreira Somoza, J (CERN) ; Frasca, A (CERN) ; Lerner, G (CERN) et al.
Circular muon colliders provide the potential to explore center-of-mass energies at the multi-TeV scale within a relatively compact footprint. Because of the short muon lifetime, only a small fraction of stored beam particles will contribute to the physics output, while most of the muons will decay in the collider ring. [...]

The muon collider offers an attractive path to a compact, multi-TeV lepton collider. However, the short muon lifetime leads to stringent requirements on the fast energy increase. [...]

Transverse Coherent Instability Studies for the High-Energy Part of the Muon Collider Complex

The International Muon Collider Collaboration (IMCC) is studying a 3 TeV center-of-mass muon collider ring, as well as a possible next stage at 10 TeV. Muons being 200 times heavier than electrons, limitations from synchrotron radiation are mostly suppressed, but the muon decay drives the accelerator chain design. [...]

Parameter ranges for a chain of rapid cycling synchrotrons for a muon collider complex
/ Chance, Antoine (IRFU, Saclay) ; Amorim, David (CERN) ; Batsch, Fabian (CERN) ; Boattini, Fulvio (CERN) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN) ; Carli, Christian (CERN) ; Damerau, Heiko (CERN) ; Grudiev, Alexej (CERN) ; Karpov, Ivan (CERN) ; Métral, Elias (CERN) et al.
A facility for a muon collider brings the big advantages of a compact lepton collider and a collision energy up to several TeV, well above the energy reach of conventional electron circular accelerators. However, the short lifetime of muons drives the design of the accelerator complex and collider, which makes this complex unique. A high muon survival rate and luminosity requires an extremely fast energy increase in combination with intense and ultra-short bunches. [...]

Longitudinal beam dynamics and RF requirements for a chain of muon RCSs

A facility for the collision of muons offers a unique path to a compact lepton collider with an energy reach in the multi-TeV regime, well beyond the possibilities of conventional electron accelerators. However, due to the short lifetime of muons, the constraints for acceleration and collisions are very different. [...]

Simulations and measurements of the transverse mode coupling instability in the LHC

The High Luminosity (HL) upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will increase the peak luminosity at the experiments by more than a factor of 5 with respect to the LHC design value. To achieve this goal, among the upgrade of several beam and machine parameters, the beam intensity will nearly double with respect to the operational LHC value, and the transverse beam emittance will decrease by 50% compared to the LHC design value. Transverse impedance and beam stability studies for the muon collider ring
/ Amorim, D (CERN) ; Boattini, F (CERN) ; Bottura, L (CERN) ; Calzolari, D (CERN) ; Carli, C (CERN) ; Lechner, A (CERN) ; Métral, E (CERN) ; Schulte, D (CERN) ; Skoufaris, K (CERN) ; Pieloni, T (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) et al.
In the framework of the International Muon Collider Collaboration, a 10 TeV muon collider ring is being studied, with the option of an intermediate 3 TeV collider stage. The decay of high-energy muons represents a great challenge in terms of heat load management and radiation shielding for the superconducting magnets of the collider ring. [...]

Transverse impedance and beam stability studies for the muon collider Rapid Cycling Synchrotrons
/ Amorim, D (CERN) ; Batsch, F (CERN) ; Damerau, H (CERN) ; Grudiev, A (CERN) ; Karpov, I (CERN) ; Métral, E (CERN) ; Schulte, D (CERN) ; Pieloni, T (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Chancé, A (IRFU, Saclay)
The International Muon Collider Collaboration is currently investigating the possibility to build a muon collider with a center of mass energy of 3 TeV in a first phase, with an option to build a 10 TeV collider in a second phase. The muon beam decay is the global challenge of such a collider and fast acceleration is required to reach high luminosities. [...]
