Analytical Evaluation of Dipole Performance Limits for a Muon Collider / Novelli, Daniel (U. Rome La Sapienza (main) ; INFN, Genoa) ; Bersani, Andrea (INFN, Genoa) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN) ; Caiffi, Barbara (INFN, Genoa) ; Fabbri, Siara (CERN) ; Farinon, Stefania (INFN, Genoa) ; Mariotto, Samuele (INFN, Milan ; Milan U. ; LASA, Segrate) ; Musenich, Riccardo (INFN, Genoa) ; Pampaloni, Alessandra (INFN, Genoa) ; Salmi, Tiina (Tampere U. of Tech.) et al.
Following the recommendation of the Updated European Strategy for Particle Physics, an International Muon Collider Collaboration has been formed and is currently studying the feasibility of a 10 TeV center-of-mass energy muon collider facility. Several technical challenges must be faced, mainly due to the limited muon lifetime at rest, 2.2 µs. [...]

Various initiatives in Europe have bene launched to study superconducting magnets for a rotatable gantry suitable for delivery up to 440 MeV/A carbon ions for hadron therapy. One initiative is led by INFN inside an agreement with CERN, CNAO and MedAustron aiming at designing and manufacturing a strongly curved costheta dipole (Rbending = 1.6 m) rated for 4 T central field and a ramp rate of 0.15-0.4 T/s. Protection Scheme Effectiveness Study for the High-Luminosity LHC MBRD Magnet / Caiffi, Barbara (INFN, Genoa) ; Bender, Lennard (Hochschule, Eng. Econ., Karlsruhe) ; Bersani, Andrea (INFN, Genoa) ; Farinon, Stefania (INFN, Genoa) ; Foussat, Arnaud (CERN) ; Levi, Filippo (INFN, Genoa) ; Mangiarotti, Franco (CERN) ; Musenich, Riccardo (INFN, Genoa) ; Novelli, Daniel (INFN, Genoa) ; Pampaloni, Alessandra (INFN, Genoa) et al.
The MBRD (Main Bending Recombination Dipole, or D2) is one of the magnets in the interaction region of the LHC that needs to be replaced in order to fulfill the requirements of the High-Luminosity upgrade. The magnetic field must be increased up to 4.5 T in an aperture with a diameter of 105 mm and a total length of about 8 m, to reach the target integrated field of 35 T$\cdot$m. [...]

Towards a Muon Collider / Accettura, Carlotta (CERN) ; Adams, Dean (Rutherford) ; Agarwal, Rohit (UC, Berkeley (main)) ; Ahdida, Claudia (CERN) ; Aimè, Chiara (Pavia U. ; INFN, Pavia) ; Amapane, Nicola (INFN, Turin ; Turin U.) ; Amorim, David (CERN) ; Andreetto, Paolo (INFN, Padua) ; Anulli, Fabio (INFN, Rome) ; Appleby, Robert (Manchester U.) et al.
A muon collider would enable the big jump ahead in energy reach that is needed for a fruitful exploration of fundamental interactions. The challenges of producing muon collisions at high luminosity and 10 TeV centre of mass energy are being investigated by the recently-formed International Muon Collider Collaboration. [...]

In the context of the Future Circular Collider hadron-hadron (FCC-hh) R&D; program, the Italian Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), in collaboration with CERN, is responsible for designing and constructing the Falcon Dipole (Future Accelerator post-LHC Costheta Optimized Nb₃Sn Dipole), which is an important step towards the construction of High Field Nb₃Sn magnets for a post LHC collider. The magnet is a short model with one aperture of 50 mm and the target bore field is 12 T (14 T ’ultimate’ field). [...]

The next generation particle accelerators will need to increase by an order of magnitude the center-of-mass energy: a viable solution is a 100 TeV circular collider, temporarily called Future Circular Collider (FCC). To achieve this goal, a new generation of double aperture superconducting magnets, capable of generating a high quality, stable 16 T magnetic field in a 50 mm bore is being developed. [...]

The compact muon solenoid (CMS) solenoid is presently the superconducting magnet with the highest stored energy (about 2.6 GJ) and one with the highest energy/mass ratio (11.3 kJ/kg). The latter is directly related with the mechanical deformation of the conductor under the action of the magnetic force, inducing a strain as high as 0.15%, close to the elastic limit of materials. Measurement of the mass difference between top quark and antiquark in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 8$ TeV / CMS Collaboration
The invariance of the standard model (SM) under the CPT transformation predicts equality of particle and antiparticle masses. This prediction is tested by measuring the mass difference between the top quark and antiquark (Delta m[t] = m[t] - m[t-bar]) that are produced in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, using events with a muon or an electron and at least four jets in the final state. Measurement of jet fragmentation in PbPb and pp collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV / CMS Collaboration
The jet fragmentation function of inclusive jets with transverse momentum $p_T$ above 100 GeV/c in PbPb collisions has been measured using reconstructed charged particles with $p_T$ above 1 GeV/c in a cone of radius 0.3 around the jet axis. A data sample of PbPb collisions collected in 2011 at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 150 inverse-microbarns is used.
