Comparison of Software Technologies for Vectorization and Parallelization / Lazzaro, Alfio ; Jarp, Sverre ; Nowak, Andrzej (CERN) ; Valsan, Liviu (U. Polytechnic Bucharest)
This paper demonstrates how modern software development methodologies can be used to give an existing sequential application a considerable performance speed-up on modern x86 server systems. [...]

Many-core experience with HEP software at CERN openlab / Jarp, Sverre (CERN) ; Lazzaro, Alfio (CERN) ; Leduc, Julien (CERN) ; Nowak, Andrzej (CERN)
The continued progression of Moore's law has led to many-core platforms becoming easily accessible commodity equipment. New opportunities that arose from this change have also brought new challenges: harnessing the raw potential of computation of such a platform is not always a straightforward task. [...]

The future of commodity computing and many-core versus the interests of HEP software / Jarp, Sverre (CERN) ; Lazzaro, Alfio (CERN) ; Nowak, Andrzej (CERN)
As the mainstream computing world has shifted from multi-core to many-core platforms, the situation for software developers has changed as well. With the numerous hardware and software options available, choices balancing programmability and performance are becoming a significant challenge. [...]

Search for lepton flavour violation in the $e\mu$ continuum with the ATLAS detector in $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV pp collisions at the LHC / ATLAS Collaboration
This paper presents a search for the t-channel exchange of an R-parity violating scalar top quark ($\tilde{t}$) in the $e^{\pm}\mu^{\pm}$ continuum using 2.1/fb of data collected by the ATLAS detector in $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV pp collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Data are found to be consistent with the expectation from the Standard Model backgrounds. [...]

Parallel Likelihood Function Evaluation on Heterogeneous Many-core Systems / Jarp, Sverre ; Lazzaro, Alfio ; Leduc, Julien (CERN) ; Nowak, Andrzej (CERN) ; Sneen Lindal, Yngve (NTNU, Trondheim) /CERN openlab Collaboration
This paper describes a parallel implementation that allows the evaluations of the likelihood function for data analysis methods to run cooperatively on heterogeneous computational devices (i.e. CPU and GPU) belonging to a single computational node. [...]

Performance of the ATLAS Trigger System in 2010 / ATLAS Collaboration
Proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV and heavy ion collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=2.76 TeV were produced by the LHC and recorded using the ATLAS experiment's trigger system in 2010. The LHC is designed with a maximum bunch crossing rate of 40 MHz and the ATLAS trigger system is designed to record approximately 200 of these per second [...]

Measurement of the centrality dependence of the charged particle pseudorapidity distribution in lead-lead collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV with the ATLAS detector / ATLAS Collaboration
The ATLAS experiment at the LHC has measured the centrality dependence of charged particle pseudorapidity distributions over |eta| < 2 in lead-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of sqrt(s_NN) = 2.76 TeV. In order to include particles with transverse momentum as low as 30 MeV, the data were recorded with the central solenoid magnet off. [...]

Inclusive search for same-sign dilepton signatures in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector / ATLAS Collaboration
An inclusive search is presented for new physics in events with two isolated leptons (electron or muon) having the same electric charge. The data are selected from events collected from pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV by the ATLAS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 34 inverse picobarns. [...]

Measurement of the transverse momentum distribution of Z/$\gamma$* bosons in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector / ATLAS Collaboration
A measurement of the Z/gamma* transverse momentum (p_T^Z)) distribution in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV is presented using Z/gamma*->e+e- and Z/gamma*->mu+mu- decays collected with the ATLAS detector in data sets with integrated luminosities of 35 pb-1 and 40 pb-1, respectively. The normalized differential cross sections are measured separately for electron and muon decay channels as well as for their combination up to p_T^Z of 350 GeV for invariant dilepton masses 66 GeV<m_ll<116 GeV.
