Nuclear Charge Radii of the Nickel Isotopes $^{58-68,70}$Ni / Malbrunot-Ettenauer, S. (CERN) ; Kaufmann, S. (Darmstadt, Tech. U.) ; Bacca, S. (Mainz U., Inst. Kernchem. ; Helmholtz Inst., Mainz) ; Barbieri, C. (Surrey U. ; Milan U. ; INFN, Milan) ; Billowes, J. (Manchester U.) ; Bissell, M.L. (Manchester U.) ; Blaum, K. (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Cheal, B. (Liverpool U.) ; Duguet, T. (IRFU, Saclay) ; Ruiz, R.F. Garcia (CERN ; Manchester U.) et al.
Collinear laser spectroscopy is performed on the nickel isotopes $^{58-68,70}$Ni, using a time-resolved photon counting system. From the measured isotope shifts, nuclear charge radii $R_c$ are extracted and compared to theoretical results. [...]

Mass measurements of $^{99-101}$In challenge ab initio nuclear theory of the nuclide $^{100}$Sn / Mougeot, M. (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst. ; CERN) ; Atanasov, D. (CERN) ; Karthein, J. (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst. ; CERN) ; Wolf, R.N. (Sydney U.) ; Ascher, P. (CENBG, Gradignan) ; Blaum, K. (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Chrysalidis, K. (CERN) ; Hagen, G. (Tennessee U. ; Oak Ridge) ; Holt, J.D. (TRIUMF ; McGill U.) ; Huang, W.J. (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) et al.
$^{100}$Sn is of singular interest for nuclear structure. Its closed-shell proton and neutron configuration exhibit exceptional binding and $^{100}$Sn is the heaviest nucleus comprising protons and neutrons in equal number, a feature that enhances the contribution of the short-range, proton-neutron pairing interaction and strongly influences its decay via the weak interaction. Charge radii of exotic potassium isotopes challenge nuclear theory and the magic character of $N = 32$ / Koszorús, Á. (Leuven U.) ; Yang, X.F. (Peking U., SKLNPT) ; Jiang, W.G. (U. Tennessee, Knoxville ; Oak Ridge ; Chalmers U. Tech.) ; Novario, S.J. (U. Tennessee, Knoxville ; Oak Ridge) ; Bai, S.W. (Peking U., SKLNPT) ; Billowes, J. (Manchester U.) ; Binnersley, C.L. (Manchester U.) ; Bissell, M.L. (Manchester U.) ; Cocolios, T.E. (Leuven U.) ; Cooper, B.S. (Manchester U.) et al.
Nuclear charge radii are sensitive probes of different aspects of the nucleon-nucleon interaction and the bulk properties of nuclear matter; thus, they provide a stringent test and challenge for nuclear theory. The calcium region has been of particular interest, as experimental evidence has suggested a new magic number at $N = 32$ [1-3], while the unexpectedly large increases in the charge radii [4,5] open new questions about the evolution of nuclear size in neutron-rich systems. Charge radius of the short-lived $^{68}$Ni and correlation with the dipole polarizability / Kaufmann, S. (Darmstadt, Tech. U.) ; Simonis, J. (U. Mainz, PRISMA) ; Bacca, S. (U. Mainz, PRISMA ; Mainz U., Inst. Kernphys. ; Helmholtz Inst., Mainz) ; Billowes, J. (Manchester U.) ; Bissell, M.L. (Manchester U.) ; Blaum, K. (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Cheal, B. (Liverpool U.) ; Garcia Ruiz, R.F. (Manchester U. ; CERN) ; Gins, W. (Leuven U.) ; Gorges, C. (Darmstadt, Tech. U.) et al.
We present the first laser spectroscopic measurement of the neutron-rich nucleus $^{68}$Ni at the \mbox{$N=40$} subshell closure and extract its nuclear charge radius. Since this is the only short-lived isotope for which the dipole polarizability $\alpha_{\rm D}$ has been measured, the combination of these observables provides a benchmark for nuclear structure theory. Unexpectedly large charge radii of neutron-rich calcium isotopes / Garcia Ruiz, R. F. (Leuven U.) ; Bissell, M.L. (Leuven U. ; Manchester U.) ; Blaum, K. (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Ekström, A. (Oak Ridge ; Tennessee U.) ; Frömmgen, N. (Mainz U., Inst. Kernchem.) ; Hagen, G. (Oak Ridge) ; Hammen, M. (Mainz U., Inst. Kernchem.) ; Hebeler, K. (Darmstadt, Tech. Hochsch. ; Darmstadt, EMMI) ; Holt, J.D. (TRIUMF) ; Jansen, G.R. (Oak Ridge ; Tennessee U.) et al.
Despite being a complex many-body system, the atomic nucleus exhibits simple structures for certain ‘magic’ numbers of protons and neutrons. The calcium chain in particular is both unique and puzzling: evidence of doubly magic features are known in 40,48Ca, and recently suggested in two radioactive isotopes, 52,54Ca. [...]

Effective interaction techniques for the Gamow shell model / Hagen, Gaute (Oslo U. ; Bergen U.) ; Hjorth-Jensen, M. (Oslo U. ; CERN ; Michigan State U.) ; Vaagen, Jan S. (Bergen U.)
We apply a contour deformation technique in momentum space to the newly developed Gamow shell model, and study the drip-line nuclei 5He, 6He and 7He. A major problem in Gamow shell-model studies of nuclear many-body systems is the increasing dimensionality of many-body configurations due to the large number of resonant and complex continuum states necessary to reproduce bound and resonant state energies. Nuclear Structure Calculations with Coupled Cluster Methods from Quantum Chemistry / Dean, D.J. (Oak Ridge ; Oslo U.) ; Gour, J.R. (Michigan State U.) ; Hagen, G. (Oslo U.) ; Hjorth-Jensen, M. (Oslo U. ; CERN ; Michigan State U.) ; Kowalski, K. (Michigan State U.) ; Papenbrock, T. (Oak Ridge ; Tennessee U.) ; Piecuch, P. (Michigan State U.) ; Wloch, M. (Michigan State U.)
We present several coupled-cluster calculations of ground and excited states of 4He and 16O employing methods from quantum chemistry. A comparison of coupled cluster results with the results of exact diagonalization of the hamiltonian in the same model space and other truncated shell-model calculations shows that the quantum chemistry inspired coupled cluster approximations provide an excellent description of ground and excited states of nuclei, with much less computational effort than traditional large-scale shell-model approaches.
