Investigating the effect of rolling deformation on the electro-mechanical limits of Nb$_{3}$Sn wires produced by RRP$^{®}$ and PIT technologies / Bagni, T (U. Geneva (main) ; Uppsala U.) ; Calzolaio, C (PSI, Villigen) ; Bovone, G (U. Geneva (main)) ; Ferradas-Troitino, J (CERN) ; Barth, C (CERN) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Senatore, C (U. Geneva (main))
Future high-field magnets for particle accelerators hinge on the crucial development of advanced Nb$_{3}$Sn wires engineered to withstand the large stresses generated during magnet assembly and operation. The superconducting properties of Nb$_{3}$Sn enable the design of compact accelerator-quality magnets above 10 T, but at the same time the brittleness and strain sensitivity of the material impose careful consideration of the mechanical limits. Effects of K excess in microstructure of (Ba$_{0.6}$K$_{0.4}$)Fe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ superconducting powders / Bellingeri, Emilio (CNR-SPIN, Naples) ; Bernini, Cristina (CNR-SPIN, Naples) ; Loria, Federico (CNR-SPIN, Naples) ; Traverso, Andrea (CNR-SPIN, Naples) ; Leveratto, Alessandro (CNR-SPIN, Naples) ; Braccini, Valeria (CNR-SPIN, Naples) ; Ballarino, Amalia (CERN) ; Malagoli, Andrea (CNR-SPIN, Naples)
Iron-based superconductors (IBSs) are promising for high-field applications due to their exceptional characteristics, like ultrahigh upper critical field and minimal electromagnetic anisotropy. Creating multifilamentary superconducting wires with elevated transport critical current density is essential for practical use. [...]

Technical superconductors (HTS) / Ballarino, Amalia (speaker) (CERN)
After a short introduction aiming at reviewing the physical parameters of superconducting materials, families of the cuprates (REBCO, BSCCO 2212 and BSCCO 2223), MgB2 and Iron Based Superconductors are described. Emphasis is put on their structure, on their physical properties, including vortex pinning characteristics, and on the manufacturing processes that enable production of wire and/or tape. [...]

Deformation Behavior and Degradation on Rutherford Cabling of Nb$_{\text{3}}$Sn Wires / Hopkins, Simon C (CERN) ; Medina-Clavijo, Bentejui (CERN) ; Rastoll, Cristin (CERN ; U. Bourgogne) ; Rodia, Davide (CERN ; Geneva U.) ; Malabaila, Marina (CERN) ; Barth, Christian (CERN) ; Fleiter, Jerome (CERN) ; Boutboul, Thierry (CERN) ; Ballarino, Amalia (CERN)
In the production of Rutherford cables, Nb 3 Sn strands are subjected to severe deformation; and to evaluate this degradation prior to cabling, uniaxial rolling with a thickness reduction of ∼15% has often been used. The effects of this deformation on superconducting performance differ significantly between wire designs. [...]

The Micro-Services of Cern’s Critical Current Test Benches / Charrondière, Cedric (CERN) ; Andreassen, Odd (CERN) ; Ballarino, Amalia (CERN) ; Barth, Christian (CERN) ; Boutboul, Thierry (CERN) ; Fleiter, Jerome (CERN) ; Hopkins, Simon (CERN) ; Koziol, Piotr (CERN) ; Reymond, Hubert (CERN)
In order to characterize the critical-current density of low temperature superconductors such as niobium¿titanium (NbTi) and niobium¿tin (Nb₃Sn) or high temperature superconductors such as magnesium-diboride MgB₂ or Rare-earth Barium Copper Oxide REBCO tapes, a wide range of custom instruments and interfaces are used. The critical current of a superconductor depends on temperature, magnetic field, current and strain, requiring high precision measurements in the nano Volt range, well-synchronized instrumentation, and the possibility to quickly adapt and replace instrumentation if needed. X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy to Investigate Precipitated Oxides in Nb3Sn Wires With an Internal Oxygen Source / Bovone, G (Geneva U.) ; Buta, F (Geneva U.) ; Lonardo, F (Geneva U.) ; Bonura, M (Geneva U.) ; Borca, C N (PSI, Villigen) ; Huthwelker, T (PSI, Villigen) ; Hopkins, S C (CERN) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Boutboul, T (CERN) ; Senatore, C (Geneva U.)
Internal oxidation can achieve significantly enhanced Jcin Nb3Sn wires, but the mechanism of oxygen transport and oxide precipitation is not fully understood. Our investigation employs X-ray Absorption Near-Edge Structure (XANES) spectroscopy, revealing insights into the oxidation of Zr and its interaction with oxygen in different areas of the wire cross section.
