We present charge‐state evolution studies for Pb$^{54+}$ ion beams passing through stripper foils at relativistic energies of 5.9 GeV/u. The purpose of this investigation is to determine the optimum target material and non‐equilibrium thickness for the efficient production of few‐electron lead ions, that is, Pb$^{80+}$ and Pb$^{81+}$, at the present European Organization for Nuclear Research, CERN, accelerator facility at energies as high as 5.9 GeV/u. An improved design of a longitudinally sensitive resonant Schottky cavity pickup for the heavy ion storage rings of the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research in Europe (FAIR) project is reported. The new detector has a higher measured Q value of ∼3000 and a higher simulated shunt impedance of 473.3 kΩ. [...]

Presented is a study of the charge-state evolution of relativistic lead ions passing through a thin aluminum stripper foil. It was motivated by the Gamma Factory project at CERN, where optical laser pulses will be converted into intense gamma-ray beams with energies up to a few hundred MeV via excitation of atomic transitions in few-electron heavy-ions at highly relativistic velocities. New test of modulated electron capture decay of hydrogen-like $^{142}$Pm ions: precision measurement of purely exponential decay / FRS-ESR Collaboration
An experiment addressing electron capture (EC) decay of hydrogen-like $^{142}$Pm$^{60+}$ ions has been conducted at the experimental storage ring (ESR) at GSI. The decay appears to be purely exponential and no modulations were observed. [...]

BREIT code: Analytical solution of the balance rate equations for charge-state evolutions of heavy-ion beams in matter / Winckler, N (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Rybalchenko, A (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Shevelko, V P (Lebedev Inst.) ; Al-Turany, M (CERN ; Darmstadt, GSI) ; Kollegger, T (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Stöhlker, Th (Darmstadt, GSI ; Jena U. ; Helmholtz Inst., Jena)
A detailed description of a recently developed BREIT computer code (Balance Rate Equations of Ion Transportation) for calculating charge-state fractions of ion beams passing through matter is presented. The code is based on the analytical solutions of the differential balance equations for the charge-state fractions as a function of the target thickness and can be used for calculating the ion evolutions in gaseous, solid and plasma targets. High-resolution measurement of the time-modulated orbital electron capture and of the $\beta^+$ decay of hydrogen-like $^{142}$Pm$^{60+}$ ions / Two-Body-Weak-Decays Collaboration
The periodic time modulations, found recently in the two-body orbital electron-capture (EC) decay of both, hydrogen-like $^{140}$Pr$^{58+}$ and $^{142}$Pm$^{60+}$ ions, with periods near to 7s and amplitudes of about 20%, were re-investigated for the case of $^{142}$Pm$^{60+}$ by using a 245 MHz resonator cavity with a much improved sensitivity and time resolution. We observed that the exponential EC decay is modulated with a period $T = 7.11(11)$s, in accordance with a modulation period $T = 7.12(11)$ s as obtained from simultaneous observations with a capacitive pick-up, employed also in the previous experiments.
