During the series of intense solar flares and coronal mass ejections, that occurred in May 2024, a remarkable Forbush decrease in the cosmic ray flux was observed on the Earth. While this event was observed by particle detectors around the world, the archipelago of Svalbard was heavily exposed to it due to the weak geomagnetic shielding in the polar region. [...]

In the context of astroparticle physics, nuclear astrophysics and quantum computing projects, it is important identifying underground laboratories where the cosmogenic background is suppressed. Located about 500 m far from the center of Trento (Italy) the Piedicastello tunnels are covered by 100 m limestone rock of the Doss Trento hill. [...]

First results on new helium based eco-gas mixtures for the Extreme Energy Events Project / EEE Collaboration
The Extreme Energy Events (EEE) Project, a joint project of the Centro Fermi (Museo Storico della Fisica e Centro Studi e Ricerche "E.Fermi") and INFN, has a dual purpose: a scientific research program on cosmic rays at ground level and an intense outreach and educational program. The project consists in a network of about 60 tracking detectors, called telescopes, mostly hosted in Italian High Schools. [...]

In the context of the High-Luminosity LHC project at CERN, a platform has been developed to support groups needing to host electronics in radiation-exposed areas. This platform, called DI/OT, is based on a modular kit consisting of a System Board, Peripheral Boards and a radiation-tolerant power converter, all housed in a standard 3U crate. [...]

Ecological transition for the gas mixtures of the MRPC cosmic ray telescopes of the EEE Project / EEE Collaboration
The Extreme Energy Events (EEE) Collaboration is fully involved in an ecological transition. The use of the standard gas mixture, \ce{C_2H_2F_4}+ \ce{SF_6}, has stopped in favor of an alternative green mixture based on \ce{C_3H_2F_4} with the addition of He or \ce{CO_2}. [...]

The ecological transition of the extreme energy events experiment / Abbrescia, M (Bari U. ; INFN, Bari) ; Avanzini, C (Pisa U.) ; Baldini, L (Pisa U.) ; Baldini Ferroli, R (Frascati) ; Batignani, G (Pisa U.) ; Battaglieri, M (INFN, Genoa) ; Boi, S (Cagliari U.) ; Bossini, E (Pisa U.) ; Carnesecchi, F (CERN) ; Cavazza, F (INFN, Bologna) et al.
The need for reducing the emission of gases, potentially contributing to the greenhouse effect and climate change, has impacted many fields, including scientific research. The Extreme Energy Event (EEE) collaboration started, already several years ago, a series of tests aiming at finding a more eco-friendly replacement for the gases used in the Multigap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPCs) of its network. The Extreme Energy Events (EEE) experiment consists in a network of cosmic muon tracker telescopes, each made of three Multi-gap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPC), able to precisely measure the absolute muon crossing time and the muon integrated angular flux at the ground level. To investigate the MRPC telescope response and performance, a simulation tool was developed in GEMC, software package based on GEANT4 libraries. [...]
