The excellent performance of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the extension of Run 3 by one year have led to a significant increase of the expected integrated luminosity by the end of its operation and before the start of the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC), exceeding the design LHC integrated luminosity of 300 fb−1 for which the final focus region has been designed. Progress in Mastering Electron Clouds at the Large Hadron Collider / Iadarola, Giovanni (CERN) ; Bradu, Benjamin (CERN) ; Mether, Lotta (CERN) ; Paraschou, Konstantinos (CERN) ; Petit, Valentine (CERN) ; Rumolo, Giovanni (CERN) ; Sabato, Luca (CERN) ; Skripka, Galina (CERN) ; Taborelli, Mauro (CERN) ; Tavian, Laurent (CERN)
During the second operational run of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) a bunch spacing of 25 ns was used for the first time for luminosity production. With such a spacing, electron cloud effects are much more severe than with the 50-ns spacing, which had been used in the previous run. [...]

Signal Analysis for Automated Diagnostic Applied to LHC Cryogenics / Martensson, Kurt (CERN) ; Bradu, Benjamin (CERN) ; Ferlin, Gerard (CERN)
The operation of the LHC at CERN is highly dependent on its associated infrastructure to operate properly, such as its cryogenic system where many conditions must be fulfilled for superconducting magnets and RF cavities. In 2018, the LHC cryogenic system caused 172 hours of accelerator downtime (out of 5760 running hours). [...]

Adaptation of the Cryogenic System Capacity for the LHC Dynamic Heat Load - Operational Experience / Brodzinski, Krzysztof (CERN) ; Bradu, Benjamin (CERN) ; Claudet, Serge (CERN) ; Delikaris, Dimitri (CERN) ; Delprat, Laurent (CERN) ; Ferlin, Gerard (CERN)
During second LHC physics operation period (Run2), between 2015 and 2018, the accelerator operation modes and beam parameters have been adapted thus allowing significantly improved integrated luminosity production. Increased energy, intensity and adapted beam operation schemes with 25 ns of inter-bunches spacing have an essential influence on the dynamic heat load generation with direct impact on the cryogenic cooling system. Observations, Analysis and Mitigation of Recurrent LHC Beam Dumps Caused by Fast Losses in Arc Half-Cell 16L2 / Jimenez, José (CERN) ; Amorim, David (CERN ; U. Grenoble Alpes) ; Antipov, Sergey (CERN) ; Arduini, Gianluigi (CERN) ; Bertarelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Biancacci, Nicolo (CERN) ; Bradu, Benjamin (CERN) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Bregliozzi, Giuseppe (CERN) ; Brodzinski, Krzysztof (CERN) et al.
Recurrent beam dumps significantly perturbed the operation of the CERN LHC in the summer months of 2017, especially in August. These unexpected beam dumps were triggered by fast beam losses that built up in the cryogenic beam vacuum at the half-cell 16 left of LHC-IP2 and were detected either at that location but mainly in the collimation insertions. Virtual control commissioning for a large critical ventilation system: The CMS cavern use case / Booth, William (CERN) ; Blanco Viñuela, Enrique (CERN) ; Bradu, Benjamin (CERN) ; Sourisseau, Samuel (CERN)
The current cavern ventilation control system of the CMS experiment at CERN is based on components which are already obsolete: the SCADA system, or close to the end of life: the PLCs. The control system is going to be upgraded during the LHC Long Shutdown 2 (2019-2020) and will be based on the CERN industrial control standard: UNICOS employing WinCC OA as SCADA and Schneider PLCs. Automatic PID performance monitoring applied to LHC cryogenics / Bradu, Benjamin (CERN) ; Blanco Viñuela, Enrique (CERN) ; Marti, Ruben (CERN) ; Tilaro, Filippo (CERN)
At CERN, the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) cryogenic system employs about 5000 PID (Proportional Integral Derivative) regulation loops distributed over the 27 km of the accelerator. Tuning all these regulation loops is a complex task and the systematic monitoring of them should be done in an automated way to be sure that the overall plant performance is improved by identifying the poorest performing PID controllers. Model learning algorithms for anomaly detection in CERN control systems / Tilaro, Filippo (CERN) ; Bradu, Benjamin (CERN) ; Gonzalez-Berges, Manuel (CERN) ; Roshchin, Mikhail (Siemens, Munich) ; Varela, Fernando (CERN)
The CERN automation infrastructure consists of over 600 heterogeneous industrial control systems with around 45 million deployed sensors, actuators and control objects. Therefore, it is evident that the monitoring of such huge system represents a challenging and complex task. [...]
