The PolariX-TDS Project: Bead-Pull Measurements and High-Power Test on the Prototype
/ Craievich, Paolo (PSI, Villigen) ; Aßmann, Ralph (DESY) ; Bopp, Markus (PSI, Villigen) ; Braun, Hans-Heinrich (PSI, Villigen) ; Catalán Lasheras, Nuria (CERN) ; Christie, Florian (DESY) ; Citterio, Alessandro (PSI, Villigen) ; D'Arcy, Richard (DESY) ; Dorda, Ulrich (DESY) ; Foese, Manon (DESY) et al.
A collaboration between DESY, PSI and CERN has been established to develop and build an advanced modular X- band transverse deflection structure (TDS) system with the new feature of providing variable polarization of the deflecting force. The prototype of the novel X-band TDS, the Polarizable X-band (PolariX) TDS, was fabricated at PSI following the high-precision tuning-free production process developed for the C-band Linac of the SwissFEL project. Dark current analysis at CERN’s X-band facility
/ Banon Caballero, David (Valencia U., IFIC ; CERN) ; Boronat, Marça (Valencia U., IFIC ; CERN) ; Catalán Lasheras, Nuria (CERN) ; Faus-Golfe, Angeles (Orsay, LAL) ; Gimeno, Benito (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Lucas, Thomas (Melbourne U. ; CERN) ; Millar, William (Lancaster U. ; CERN) ; Paszkiewicz, Jan (U. Oxford (main) ; CERN) ; Pitman, Sam (CERN) ; Sánchez, Victoria (Valencia U., IFIC ; CERN) et al.
Dark current is particularly relevant during operation in high-gradient linear accelerators. Resulting from the capture of field emitted electrons, dark current produces additional radiation that needs to be accounted for in experiments. [...]

High power conditioning of X-band variable power splitter and phase shifter

The three X-band test facilities currently at CERN aim at qualifying CLIC structures prototypes but are also extensively used to qualify X-band components operation at high power. In order to upgrade one of the facilities from a single test line to a double test line facility, a high power variable splitter and variable phase shifter have been designed and manufactured at CERN. ProBE: Proton boosting extension for imaging and therapy

Proton beam therapy is an alternative to traditional x-ray radiotherapy utilised especially for paediatric malignancies and radio-resistant tumours; it allows a precise tumour irradiation, but is currently limited by knowledge of the patient density and thus the particle range [1]. Typically X-ray computed tomography (CT) is used for treatment planning but CT scans require conversion from Hounsfield units to estimate the proton stopping power (PSP), which has limited accuracy .
