The high-luminosity upgrade of the LHC (HL-LHC) brings unprecedented requirements for precision bunch-by-bunch luminosity measurement and beam-induced background monitoring in real time. A key component of the CMS Beam Radiation Instrumentation and Luminosity detector system is a stand-alone luminometer, the Fast Beam Condition Monitor (FBCM), which is able to operate independently at all times with a triggerless asynchronous readout. Characterization and beam test measurements of CMS Phase-2 luminometers / Kadlecsik, Á (Eotvos U.) ; Auzinger, G (CERN) ; Bakhshiansohi, H (Isfahan Tech. The physics program of the HL-LHC requires high-precision (≲1%) luminosity determination. Two new luminosity detectors are being developed by the CMS BRIL (Beam Radiation, Instrumentation, and Luminosity) project: the Fast Beam Condition Monitor (FBCM), a standalone detector with unique timing capabilities, and the Tracker Endcap Pixel (TEPX) detector augmented with real-time cluster reconstruction in the FPGA of a dedicated back-end board at 10% of the full level-1 trigger rate. The Phase-2 CMS BRIL system for precision luminometry / Mallows, Sophie (KIT, Karlsruhe, EKP) /CMS Collaboration
The CMS Beam Radiation, Instrumentation and Luminosity (BRIL) system aims to provide high-precision bunch-by-bunch luminosity determination in the harsh conditions of the High-Luminosity LHC. Luminosity instrumentation will use diverse technologies, including a dedicated detector, the fast beam conditions monitor (FBCM) with Si-pad sensors and a fast triggerless readout. [...]

Measurement of the background in the CMS muon detector in ${p}{p}$-collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ $\,\text {Te}\hspace{-.08em}\text {V}$ / CMS Muon Collaboration
The CMS detector, including its muon system, has been operating at the CERN LHC in increasingly challenging conditions for about 15 years. The muon detector was designed to provide excellent triggering and track reconstruction for muons produced in proton–proton collisons at an instantaneous luminosity ($\mathcal {L}$) of $1 \times 10^{34}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$. TetraBall: A single-moderator neutron spectrometer for HL-LHC / Bedogni, R (Frascati) ; Costa, M (INFN, Turin ; Turin U.) ; Durisi, E (INFN, Turin ; Turin U.) ; Mafucci, E (INFN, Turin ; Turin U.) ; Monti, V (INFN, Turin ; Turin U.) ; Caballero Pacheco, M A (Frascati) ; Castro Campoy, A I (Frascati) ; Dashdondog, D (Frascati) ; Russo, L (Frascati) ; Pietropaolo, A (Frascati ; ENEA, Frascati) et al.
This contribution presents a novel single-moderator neutron spectrometer, named “TetraBall”, developed at INFN and optimized for characterizing the neutron field in the CMS experimental cavern. The TetraBall condenses the functionality of several Bonner Spheres (BS) in a single moderator and it is equipped with 42 SiC radiation-hard detectors organized in a tetrahedral geometry designed to be insensitive to incident gammas and charged particles. Measurement of the fractional radiation length of a pixel module for the CMS Phase-2 upgrade via the multiple scattering of positrons / Tracker Group of the CMS Collaboration
High-luminosity particle collider experiments such as the ones planned at the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider require ever-greater vertexing precision of the tracking detectors, necessitating also reductions in the material budget of the detectors. Traditionally, the fractional radiation length ($x/X_0$) of detectors is either estimated using known properties of the constituent materials, or measured in dedicated runs of the final detector.
