Mechanical Design of the Beam Gas Ionisation (BGI) Beam Profile Monitor for CERN Super Proton Synchrotron
/ Ramos Garcia, Maria Teresa (CERN) ; Andreazza, William (CERN) ; Bestmann, Patrick (CERN) ; Bursali, Hikmet (CERN) ; Chritin, Nicolas (CERN) ; Devauchelle, Wilfried (CERN) ; Harrison, Anthony (CERN) ; Khatri, Ghanshyambhai (CERN) ; McLean, Mark (CERN) ; Pasquino, Chiara (CERN) et al.
The Beam Gas Ionisation (BGI) instrument of the Proton Synchrotron (PS), presently installed and operational, has been re-designed for the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS), the following machine along the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) injector chain at CERN accelerator complex. Using the same detection technology, Timepix3, the SPS-BGI infers the beam profile from the electrons created by the ionisation of rest gas molecules and accelerated onto an imaging detector. [...]

Toward a pulsed antihydrogen beam for WEP tests in AEgIS
/ Huck, Saiva (CERN ; Hamburg U.) ; Auzins, Marcis (Latvia U.) ; Bergmann, Benedikt (IEAP CTU, Prague) ; Burian, Petr (IEAP CTU, Prague) ; Brusa, Roberto S (Trento U. ; TIFPA-INFN, Trento) ; Camper, Antoine (Oslo U.) ; Caravita, Ruggero (Trento U. ; TIFPA-INFN, Trento) ; Castelli, Fabrizio (INFN, Milan ; Milan U.) ; Ciuryło, Roman (Torun, Copernicus Astron. Ctr.) ; Consolati, Giovanni (INFN, Milan ; Milan Polytechnic) et al.
The AEg̅IS collaboration at CERN’s AD produces antihydrogen atoms in the form of a pulsed, isotropic source with a precisely defined formation time. AEg̅IS has recently undergone major upgrades to fully benefit from the increased number of colder antiprotons provided by the new ELENA decelerator and to move toward forming a horizontal beam to directly investigate the influence of gravity on the H̅ atoms, thereby probing the Weak Equivalence Principle for antimatter. Real-time antiproton annihilation vertexing with submicrometer resolution
/ AEḡIS Collaboration
The primary goal of the AEgIS experiment is to precisely measure the free fall of antihydrogen within Earth's gravitational field. To this end, a cold ~50K antihydrogen beam has to pass through two grids forming a moiré deflectometer before annihilating onto a position-sensitive detector, which shall determine the vertical position of the annihilation vertex relative to the grids with micrometric accuracy. [...]

Absolute beam current measurement for slow extracted beams at CERN's North Area facility
/ Tan, Jocelyn (CERN) ; Schmidl, Frank (U. Jena (main)) ; Khatri, Ghanshyambhai (CERN) ; Crescimbeni, Lorenzo (U. Jena (main) ; Darmstadt, GSI) ; Schwickert, Marcus (Darmstadt, GSI) ; McLean, Mark (CERN) ; Sieber, Thomas (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Stoehlker, Thomas (Darmstadt, GSI ; Helmholtz Inst., Jena) ; Koettig, Torsten (CERN) ; Tympel, Volker (Helmholtz Inst., Jena ; Darmstadt, GSI)
The North Area facility (NA), built in the 1970s at CERN, hosts several secondary beam lines for a large variety of physics experiments: Neutrino Platform, Dark matter, high energy physics, R&D;, detector validation etc. 400 GeV/c primary proton beams, extracted from the SPS ring, are split along the transfer lines to fire on 4 targets and serve the users with secondary particles such as e-, e+, muons, pions, hadrons, kaons... Impedance reduction of the beam gas ionization monitors for the CERN SPS
/ Bursali, Hikmet (CERN) ; Andreazza, William (CERN) ; Khatri, Ghanshyambhai (CERN) ; Ramos Garcia, Maria Teresa (CERN) ; Storey, James (CERN) ; Vollenberg, Wil (CERN) ; Vollinger, Christine (CERN)
The beam gas ionization monitors (BGIs) are non-destructive instruments to measure the transverse beam profiles. With the goal to double the beam intensity in the injector chain for the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC), any element contributing to the overall beam coupling impedance requires an in-depth impedance evaluation from the design stage. Low-Energy Negative Ion Injection Beamline for Experiments with Antiprotonic Atoms at AEgIS
/ Rodin, Volodymyr (U. Liverpool (main) ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Cerchiari, Giovanni (Innsbruck U.) ; Doser, Michael (CERN) ; Farricker, Aaron (U. Liverpool (main)) ; Khatri, Ghanshyambhai (CERN) ; Kornakov, Georgy (Warsaw U. of Tech. (main)) ; Welsch, Carsten (U. Liverpool (main) ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.)
Interaction of low-energy antiprotons with nuclear targets provided fundamental knowledge about proton and neutron densities of many nuclei through the capture process, cascade on lower electron orbits, and annihilation with the nucleon. The expelled electrons produce X-rays and with the recoil particles after annihilation, thus, a sufficient amount of information can be obtained about this interaction. [...]
