Double-graviton production from Standard Model plasma / Ghiglieri, J. (SUBATECH, Nantes) ; Laine, M. (Bern U.) ; Schütte-Engel, J. (UC, Berkeley ; Wako, RIKEN) ; Speranza, E. (CERN)
The thermal plasma filling the early universe generated a stochastic gravitational wave background that peaks in the microwave frequency range today. If the graviton production rate is expressed as a series in a fine-structure constant, $\alpha$, and the temperature over the Planck mass, $T^2_{ } / m_{\rm pl}^2$, then the lowest-order contributions come from single ($\sim \alpha T^2_{ }/m_{\rm pl}^2$) and double ($\sim T^4_{ }/m_{\rm pl}^4$) graviton production via $2\to 2$ scatterings. High Temperature Effects in the Cosmic Gravitational Microwave Background / Schuette Engel, Jan (speaker) (UC Berkeley)
The thermal plasma in the early universe produced a guaranteed stochastic gravitational wave (GW) background, which peaks today in the microwave regime and was dubbed the cosmic gravitational microwave background (CGMB). The CGMB spectrum encodes fundamental information about particle physics and gravity at ultra high energies. [...]

Opportunities for Fundamental Physics Research with Radioactive Molecules / Arrowsmith-Kron, Gordon (Michigan State U.) ; Athanasakis-Kaklamanakis, Michail (CERN ; Leuven U.) ; Au, Mia (CERN ; Mainz U.) ; Ballof, Jochen (CERN ; Michigan State U.) ; Berger, Robert (Philipps U. Marburg) ; Borschevsky, Anastasia (U. Groningen, VSI) ; Breier, Alexander A. (Kassel U.) ; Buchinger, Fritz (McGill U.) ; Budker, Dmitry (Darmstadt, GSI ; UC, Berkeley) ; Caldwell, Luke (JILA, Boulder ; U. Colorado, Boulder ; Colorado U.) et al.
Molecules containing short-lived, radioactive nuclei are uniquely positioned to enable a wide range of scientific discoveries in the areas of fundamental symmetries, astrophysics, nuclear structure, and chemistry. Recent advances in the ability to create, cool, and control complex molecules down to the quantum level, along with recent and upcoming advances in radioactive species production at several facilities around the world, create a compelling opportunity to coordinate and combine these efforts to bring precision measurement and control to molecules containing extreme nuclei. Characterization of Self-Modulated Electron Bunches in an Argon Plasma / Groß, Matthias (DESY, Zeuthen) ; Boonpornprasert, Prach (DESY, Zeuthen) ; Brinkmann, Reinhard (DESY) ; Chen, Ye (DESY, Zeuthen) ; Engel, Johannes (DESY, Zeuthen) ; Good, James (DESY, Zeuthen) ; Grüner, Florian (CFEL, Hamburg ; Hamburg U.) ; Huck, Holger (DESY, Zeuthen) ; Isaev, Igor (DESY, Zeuthen) ; Krasilnikov, Mikhail (DESY, Zeuthen) et al.
The self-modulation instability is fundamental for the plasma wakefield acceleration experiment of the AWAKE (Advanced Wakefield Experiment) collaboration at CERN where this effect is used to generate proton bunches for the resonant excitation of high acceleration fields. Utilizing the availability of flexible electron beam shaping together with excellent diagnostics including an RF deflector, a supporting experiment was set up at the electron accelerator PITZ (Photo Injector Test facility at DESY, Zeuthen site), given that the underlying physics is the same. Particle-beam-driven plasma wakefield acceleration (PWFA) enables various novel high-gradient techniques for powering future compact light-source and high-energy physics applications. Here, a driving particle bunch excites a wakefield response in a plasma medium, which may rapidly accelerate a trailing witness beam. [...]

Study of Charge Diffusion in a Silicon Detector Using an Energy Sensitive Pixel Readout Chip / Schioppa, E. J. (NIKHEF, Amsterdam) ; Idarraga, J. (NASA, Houston) ; van Beuzekom, M. (Philips Research Eindhoven, Amsterdam) ; Uher, J. (Amsterdam Scientific Instruments, Amsterdam)
A 300 μm thick thin p-on-n silicon sensor was connected to an energy sensitive pixel readout ASIC and exposed to a beam of highly energetic charged particles. By exploiting the spectral information and the fine segmentation of the detector, we were able to measure the evolution of the transverse profile of the charge carriers cloud in the sensor as a function of the drift distance from the point of generation.
