Metascintillator pulse feature and shape analysis to detect photoelectric interactions and energy sharing / Konstantinou, G (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Latella, R (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Molliner, L (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Zhang, L (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Benlloch, J M ; Gonzalez, A J ; Lecoq, P (Valencia U., IFIC ; CERN)
Metascintillators are scintillator topologies whose principle is based on sharing the energy of an impinging gamma ray between their composing materials. These can be a dense crystal such as LYSO or BGO to retain a high gamma absorption probability, and a fast-emitting compound such as BC-422, EJ232 or BaF$_{2}$ contributing to its light production kinetics. Toward a second generation of Metascintillators using the Purcell effect / Lecoq, P (CERN) ; Kaminer, I (Technion) ; Schultzman, A (Technion) ; Schütz, R (Technion) ; Kurman, Y (Technion) ; Lahav, N (Technion) ; Dosovitskiy, G (Technion) ; Bekenstein, Y (Technion) ; Konstantinou, G ; Latella, R et al.
We are developing a new scintillation concept, which will become part of the second generation of metascintillators. The first generation approached 100 ps equivalent coincidence time resolution (CTR) in a PET scanner configuration with LYSO/plastic and LYSO/BaF2designs, and reached 200 ps with much cheaper BGO/plastic and BGO/BaF2heterostructures. Metascintillators: New Results for TOF-PET Applications / Lecoq, P (CERN ; Valencia, Polytechnic U.) ; Konstantinou, G ; Latella, R ; Moliner, L (Valencia, Polytechnic U.) ; Nuyts, J (Leuven U.) ; Zhang, L ; Barrio, J (Valencia, Polytechnic U.) ; Benlloch, J M (Valencia, Polytechnic U.) ; Gonzalez, A J (Valencia, Polytechnic U.)
We report on the progress on a first generation of realistic size metascintillators for time-of-flight PET. These heterostructures combine dense LYSO or BGO plates, interleaved with fast scintillator layers producing a bunch of prompt photons from the energy leakage of the recoil photoelectric electron. Roadmap toward the 10 ps time-of-flight PET challenge / Lecoq, Paul (CERN) ; Morel, Christian (Marseille, CPPM) ; Prior, John O (Lausanne U.) ; Visvikis, Dimitris (LATIM, Brest) ; Gundacker, Stefan (CERN ; Milan U.) ; Auffray, Etiennette (CERN) ; Križan, Peter (Ljubljana U.) ; Turtos, Rosana Martinez (CERN ; Aarhus U.) ; Thers, Dominique (SUBATECH, Nantes) ; Charbon, Edoardo (Neuchatel U.) et al.
Since the seventies, positron emission tomography (PET) has become an invaluable medical molecular imaging modality with an unprecedented sensitivity at the picomolar level, especially for cancer diagnosis and the monitoring of its response to therapy. More recently, its combination with x-ray computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance (MR) has added high precision anatomic information in fused PET/CT and PET/MR images, thus compensating for the modest intrinsic spatial resolution of PET. We introduce a simulation framework for the transport of high and low energy electrons in xenon-based gaseous optical time projection chambers (OTPCs). The simulation relies on elementary cross sections (electron-atom and electron-molecule) and incorporates, in order to compute the gas scintillation, the reaction/quenching rates (atom-atom and atom-molecule) of the first 41 excited states of xenon and the relevant associated excimers, together with their radiative cascade. Background rejection in NEXT using deep neural networks / NEXT Collaboration
We investigate the potential of using deep learning techniques to reject background events in searches for neutrinoless double beta decay with high pressure xenon time projection chambers capable of detailed track reconstruction. The differences in the topological signatures of background and signal events can be learned by deep neural networks via training over many thousands of events. [...]
