Design and early operation of a new-generation internal beam dump for CERN’s Super Proton Synchrotron
/ Francia, A. Romero (CERN) ; Perillo Marcone, A. (CERN) ; Pianese, S. (CERN) ; Andersen, K. (CERN) ; Izquierdo, G. Arnau (CERN) ; Briz, J.A. (CERN) ; Perez, D. Carbajo (CERN) ; Carlier, E. (CERN) ; Coiffet, T. (CERN) ; Esposito, L.S. (CERN) et al.
The Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) is the last stage in the injector chain for CERN's Large Hadron Collider, and it also provides proton and ion beams for several fixed-target experiments. The SPS has been in operation since 1976, and it has been upgraded over the years. [...]

Presently under construction in Lund, Sweden, the European Spallation Source (ESS) will be the world's brightest neutron source. As such, it has the potential for a particle physics program with a unique reach and which is complementary to that available at other facilities. [...]

Construction and Installation of the New CERN Proton Synchrotron Internal Beam Dumps
/ Andersen, Kristian G (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Cherif, Ahmed (CERN) ; Coiffet, Thibaut (CERN) ; De Macedo, Aurelio (CERN) ; Devidal, Sylvain (CERN) ; Geisser, Jean-Marie (CERN) ; Gilardoni, Simone S (CERN) ; Gillet, Martin (CERN) ; Grenier-Boley, Edouard (CERN) et al.
In the framework of the CERN Large Hadron Collider Injectors Upgrade (LIU) Project, the Proton Synchrotron (PS) has been equipped with two new movable Internal Dumps (PSID), each of them capable of absorbing particle beams of an energy of up to 100 kJ. These dumps replace the old Internal Dumps, which have been operated in the accelerator complex since their installation in 1975 until their decommissioning and removal from the machine during the second LHC Long Shut down (LS2). /CERN NA63 Collaboration
In the CERN NA63 collaboration we have addressed the question of the potential inadequacy of the commonly used Migdal formulation of the Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal (LPM) effect by measuring the photon emission by 20 and 178 GeV electrons in the range 100 MeV - 4 GeV, in targets of LowDensityPolyEthylene (LDPE), C, Al, Ti, Fe, Cu, Mo and, as a reference target, Ta. For each target and energy, a comparison between simulated values based on the LPM suppression of incoherent bremsstrahlung is shown, taking multi-photon effects into account. [...]

This paper summarizes the physics potential of the CLIC high-energy e+e- linear collider. It provides input to the Snowmass 2013 process for the energy-frontier working groups on The Higgs Boson (HE1), Precision Study of Electroweak Interactions (HE2), Fully Understanding the Top Quark (HE3), as well as The Path Beyond the Standard Model -- New Particles, Forces, and Dimensions (HE4). Direct measurement of the formation length of photons
/ Andersen, Kristoffer K (Aarhus U.) ; Andersen, Søren L (Aarhus U.) ; Esberg, Jakob (Aarhus U.) ; Knudsen, Helge (Aarhus U.) ; Mikkelsen, Rune (Aarhus U.) ; Uggerhøj, Ulrik I (Aarhus U.) ; Sona, Pietro (Florence U.) ; Mangiarotti, Alessio (Coimbra U.) ; Ketel, Tjeerd J (Vrije U., Amsterdam) ; Ballestrero, Sergio (Johannesburg U.)
/CERN NA63 Collaboration
We report the first observation of a shoulder in the radiation spectrum from GeV electrons in a structured target consisting of two thin and closely spaced foils. The position of the shoulder depends on the target spacing and is directly connected to the finite formation length of a low-energy photon emitted by an ultrarelativistic electron. [...]
