The CERN Linear Electron Accelerator for Research (CLEAR) has been operating since 2017 as a user facility providing beams for a large variety of experiments. Its RF photocathode-based linear accelerator can accelerate electrons up to 220 MeV with a bunch charge of 0.1-1.5nC with single or up to 150 bunches per train. [...]

Real-time Plastic Scintillation Dosimetry of Ultra-High Dose Rate Very High Energy Electrons (VHEE) at CERN CLEAR Facility / Giguère, Cloé (Laval U.) ; Hart, Alexander (Victoria U.) ; Bateman, Joseph (Oxford U.) ; Korysko, Pierre (Oxford U. ; CERN) ; Farabolini, Wilfrid (CERN) ; LeChasseur, Yoan (McGill U.) ; Bazalova-Carter, Magdalena (Victoria U.) ; Beaulieu, Luc (Laval U.)
Very High Energy Electrons (VHEE) that can theoretically treat deep-seated tumours and be delivered at ultra-high dose rates (UHDR) could be the solution to translate FLASH radiotherapy into the clinic. Standard dosimeters have limited application in those extreme conditions, but dose-rate independent and fast-response plastic scintillation detectors (PSDs) are a potential alternative to overcome this. Beam loss detection based on generation of Cherenkov light in optical fibers in the CERN Linear Electron Accelerator for Research / Benítez, S (CERN) ; Salvachúa, B (CERN) ; Chen, M (CERN)
Cherenkov optical beam loss monitors (oBLMs) based on optical fibers are a revolutionary achievement among the monitoring systems in particle accelerators. Due to the nature of the Cherenkov phenomenon and the intrinsic characteristics of optical fibers, the photon production and fiber light transmission need to be studied to deduce the total amount of Cherenkov photons detected by the photosensors attached at the end of the system. VHEE FLASH sparing effect measured at CLEAR, CERN with DNA damage of pBR322 plasmid as a biological endpoint / Wanstall, Hannah C (Manchester U. ; Daresbury) ; Korysko, Pierre (Oxford U. ; CERN) ; Farabolini, Wilfred (CERN) ; Corsini, Roberto (CERN) ; Bateman, Joseph J (Oxford U., Theor. Phys.) ; Rieker, Vilde (CERN ; Oslo U.) ; Hemming, Abigail (U. Manchester (main)) ; Henthorn, Nicholas T (U. Manchester (main) ; Manchester U.) ; Merchant, Michael J (Manchester U.) ; Santina, Elham (Manchester U.) et al.
Ultra-high dose rate (UHDR) irradiation has been shown to have a sparing effect on healthy tissue, an effect known as ‘FLASH’. This effect has been studied across several radiation modalities, including photons, protons and clinical energy electrons, however, very little data is available for the effect of FLASH with Very High Energy Electrons (VHEE). Plastic Scintillator Dosimetry of Ultrahigh Dose-Rate 200 MeV Electrons at CLEAR / Hart, Alexander (Victoria U.) ; Giguère, Cloé (Laval U.) ; Bateman, Joseph (Oxford U.) ; Korysko, Pierre (Oxford U.) ; Farabolini, Wilfrid (CERN) ; Rieker, Vilde (CERN ; Oslo U.) ; Esplen, Nolan (Victoria U.) ; Corsini, Roberto (CERN) ; Dosanjh, Manjit (Oxford U.) ; Beaulieu, Luc (Laval U.) et al.
Very-high-energy electron (VHEE) beams with energies greater than 100 MeV may be promising candidates for FLASH radiotherapy due to their favorable dose distributions and accessibility of ultrahigh dose rates (UHDRs). Combining VHEE with the normal tissue-sparing FLASH effect of UHDR radiotherapy could improve patient outcomes. [...]

Objective. Very high energy electrons (VHEE) in the range of 50–250 MeV are of interest for treating deep-seated tumours with FLASH radiotherapy (RT). [...]

Implementation of the beam-loading effect in the tracking code RF-track based on a power-diffusive model / Olivares Herrador, Javier (CERN ; Valencia U., IFIC) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Aksoy, Avni (CERN ; Ankara U.) ; Fuster Martínez, Nuria (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Gimeno, Benito (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Esperante, Daniel (Valencia U., IFIC ; U. Sevilla, Dept. Electron. Eng.)
The need to achieve high energies in particle accelerators is leading to the development of new accelerator technologies, resulting in higher beam intensities and more compact devices with stronger accelerating fields. In such scenarios, Beam Loading effects occur and a intensitydependent gradient reduction affects the accelerated beam as a consequence of its interaction with the surrounding cavity. [...]

Analysis of the Radiation Field Generated by 200-MeV Electrons on a Target at the CLEAR Accelerator at CERN / Lerner, Giuseppe (CERN) ; Pelissou, Pierre (CERN ; INSA, Toulouse) ; Aguiar, Ygor Q (CERN) ; Sacristan Barbero, Mario (CERN) ; Cecchetto, Matteo (CERN) ; Biłko, Kacper (CERN) ; Coussen, Louise (CERN ; INSA, Toulouse) ; Emriskova, Natalia (CERN) ; García Alía, Rubén (CERN) ; Dyks, Luke (CERN ; Oxford U.) et al.
The radiation showers generated by the interaction of high-energy electrons with matter include neutrons with an energy distribution peaked at the MeV scale, produced via photonuclear reactions, allowing measurements of neutron-induced single-event effects (SEEs) in electronic devices. In this work, we study a setup where the 200-MeV electron beam of the CLEAR accelerator at European Organization for Nuclear Research [Centre Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire (CERN)] is directed on an aluminum target to produce a radiation field with a large neutron component.
