Abstract | The present proposal first describes the results obtained using GaAs Schottky diode detectors which we have constructed, and the initial steps which we have taken towards the design of a GaAs preamplifier to match the detectors. We then propose a continuation of the programme of work towards a demonstration detector module for an LHC pre-shower tracker detector based on GaAs, within a time-scale of two years. The module will be compatible with the design of the proposed pre-shower tracker using silicon detectors (DRDC/P3), and should allow direct substitution for comparison purposes. |
