根據加拿大天然主義者聯合會與盧平天然主義俱樂部(Lupin Naturist Club)的歷史，布恩在1951年被推翻，因為會員不滿意他的獨裁作風。這一點，連同布恩希望在比其他人所期望的更接近紐約市的地方，開設一個新的俱樂部，使他成立全國裸體主義者議會。布恩在1960年代離開後，ASA變得更世俗，就像當時美國社會一般。

1980年創立的天然主義協會（The Naturist Society,TNS）是由李巴克森德爾(Lee（Lee Baxandall)Baxandall）擔任裸體海灘運動的繼任者。TNS強調在公共場所的裸體，而不是在私人場所，雖然它也資助幾項在私人度假勝地舉行的年會。<ref name=seattle/>
