為了朝這個方向前進，五星運動通過部落[[網誌\|博客]]的註冊會員的線上投票選擇了義大利與歐洲議會的候選人。通過網絡上的“盧梭”（Rousseau）申請，五星運動的註冊用戶可以討論，批准或拒絕立法建議（五星運動會在議會提交）。支持取消對移民的法律選擇也是由五星運動的成員在網上進行的。與主張脫離歐盟的[[英國獨立黨]]的合作關係也是通過網路投票決定的，儘管五星運動選擇[[歐洲議會黨團]]的選項僅限於：[[自由和直接民主欧洲]]（極右派、翼疑歐、保守派）、[[歐洲保守派和改革主義者聯盟]]（右派、翼疑歐、保守派）和[[无所属议员\|無所屬]]。由於[[中间偏左翼]]的[[绿党－/欧洲自由联盟]]事先拒絕了五星運動，所以在投票時沒有這個選項。五星運動為阻止議員因無限规定党员只能出任兩屆民選公职（不限地區及中央），例如党员擔任一屆大區委员会議員及一屆國會议会議員，會被視為擔任兩屆民選公職，因此不能連任。
