==小说作品==
埃可科的小说创作有一个显著的特点，那就是小说的情节都是令人眩晕的复杂。读者需要对欧洲中世纪的历史文化——特别是基督教教派的发展史有一定的了解，否则很难理解小说的内容，甚至完全迷失，不知所云。这和他的学者出身显然不无关系。因此他的小说被评论为典型的“知识分子小说”，翻译与阅读都需要很高的知识修养。
