Smash Glass Series- On the way home from work, my mind was busy thinking about how to use chunks of glass in my enameled pieces. I hadn't had any luck getting the glass chunks to work on jewelry. All of a sudden... a hammer came to mind. SMASH glass enamel was born. These earrings underwent many firings and layers of color and smashed glass to get the end product in the photos. You will get the earrings in the photo... Completely one-of-a-kind and signed by the artist. These dangle earrings are created out of solid 20g copper disks that I enameled with different enamels and smashed glass layered to create unique colors. The back side of the earrings are enameled with base color of earring. I added a handmade marquis styled 14/20 rose gold filled ear wire to finish these lightweight stunningly colorful earrings. These earrings are one of a kind and vary slightly from earring to earring. You will receive the pair in the photos. Dimensions: Drop Length with ear wire: 2 inches (approx.) Width: .5 inches (approx.) at widest point About Enamel Enameling is the art of fusing powdered glass onto metal to create designs. It is one of the oldest methods used to decorate metals. Enamel powder is applied, by sifting or wet packing to a prepared metal surface and then torch or kiln fired. Metals may be worked - etched, chased, formed, etc. - before any enamel is applied. Enameling is characterized by brilliant, non-fading colors, tremendous durability, variety of color effects depending on angle of light. My Enameling Journey: I began teaching myself the art of enameling a 2 years ago when I received a kiln as a gift. After melting and burning many different projects, I now have discovered that enameling is a lot like water color.... Lesson 1: Let the the glass and metal be glass and metal. Lesson 2: Don't overwork; less is more. Please note: These copper pieces are rustic renditions that vary piece to piece. Every item is made by me by hand. I use traditional tools with time-honored techniques. Minor imperfections and variations are part of the charm of a completely handmade item. I strive to make each item beautiful and unique in its own way.
