I really pushed to get it all painted before Thanksgiving, which involved painting the ceiling, beams, paneling, trim, door, and built-ins. On top of that, I needed to design, build, prime, and paint a mantel! We got it all finished, though, and now I'm enjoying putting the room back together again. I used the same #beamhack on the landing beams and was pleased with the results so I wanted to use it on the dark, damaged beam in here too. First, I filled the damaged bits and sanded any flaky parts. Next, I put on a couple of coats of cream chalk paint. Once the paint was dry, I started applying the browning wax with a stiff, old brush. It looks rubbish when you first start putting it on but keep working it in and it will start to look more natural. It’s easier to add than take away the wax so just keep adding to it and build it up until it looks good.
