The Lengberg bra as worn. Renikas anachronistic adventures. 16th Century Clothing, 17th Century Clothing, Book Dress, Retro Lingerie, Medieval Garb, Vintage Corset, Bra Pattern, Adventure Outfit, Larp Costume

This started out as a keen interest in the late 15th century German garb a couple of years ago, and I have made some tryouts aiming for a dress with the pleated panels in front and back as seen in so many drawings and paintings from the time and region. However, I struggled with how to get enough bust support with such a lowcut dress with the pleated panels and never found a good way of doing it. Until the first pictures of the Lengberg finds hit the internet, showing supportive underwear…

I have finally finished another bra based on the "longline" bra found in Lengberg Castle in Austria. This one includes the sprang insert, with flat fingerloop braids and needlelace. My work is interpretive, since the original bra no longer has the sprang insert. This bra is entirely handsewn using waxed linen thread. The body of the bra was made using a courser, thicker linen, with the cups being made using a somewhat finer linen, as the original was made. Here is a closeup of the insert as…

BLOG POST: Lengberg bra. Bra Pattern, Bra Cups, Blog Post, Cut Out, Fan, Bra, Pattern

OK, I´m no fan of basting, fitting, re-doing, fitting, basting some more... But this project needs patience and a lot of looking into the details. I did a whole lot more research, planning and discussing on this one than ever before, I´m normally the "lets get these scissors into that fabric asap and see where it will take us"-kind of gal, which many of my friends can testify. So this is surely a challenge for me, still in the toille-stage and no where near getting that done, by the looks of…

I’m faced once again with shrinking out of my fitted kirtle (I know, rough problem to have). This means I again need to re-fit my bodice pattern and make new clothes. I hate that. I mean I have four workable if slightly big dresses which I would like to continue to wear and making all new clothes is a pain.…Continue Reading→

This Saturday we had our second sewing circle dedicated to fitted underwear. Åsa had gotten a long way and brought her already fitted boob-bags for help with fitting the bodice. I started with cutting out a front and back-piece, roughly shaped after the new toille but in two pieces instead of four. Then I had to mark were to make the cut-outs for the boob-bags. As we had discussed last time and Åsa had tried, I used an underwire-bra to mark the size and shape. Since all my underwire-bras are…

1820-1829 Regency Cotton Bodice Undergarment – Adored Vintage 1820s Fashion, Regency Fashion, Historical Costume, Historical Dresses, Victoria And Albert, Vintage Lingerie, Modern Outfits, Historical Clothing, Historical Fashion

When I first saw this Regency era bodice undergarment from the Victoria and Albert London Collection I for sure thought, that is SO modern! It has a very late 1940s early 50s look. You could see it with high waist shorts that flare out a bit or even high waist trousers in a soft cream cotton. Right?! But shucks, this is 200 years old and it was worn as UNDERWEAR. I swear, fashion history is incredible! Where I'd Wear It Now I'd pair this with high waisted trousers or maybe an a-line linen…
