FAQs

What is an IoT SIM Card?

An IoT SIM card (Internet of Things SIM card) is an IC (Integrated Circuit) chip that holds wireless carrier credentials to provide access to cellular networks for IoT devices like fleet or asset trackers, health wearables, or security cameras.

What information is stored on a SIM card?

A SIM card mainly stores carrier credentials in the form of a unique identifier called the ICCID (Integrated Circuit Card Identifier), an IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber Identity) and an authentication key that validates the IMSI toward the mobile carrier.

How much do IoT SIM cards cost?

Find KORE Super SIM pricing here. When you're comparing IoT SIM cards, look for options that offer maximum flexibility with no penalties or cost for unused data.

What is an eSIM?

eUICC eSIMs - not to be confused with embedded SIMs that are simply pre-soldered SIMs with a smaller form factor - are SIMs of any form factor that can hold several SIM profiles on their hardware and switch the profile as needed, as standardized by the GSMA. Learn more in our eSIM 101 guide.

What are IoT data plans?

The main purpose of most IoT devices is to collect data from remote locations. Look for IoT data plans that offer simple per-MB-per-SIM pricing that's unified across all carriers for predictable cellular cost.

What devices use an IoT SIM card?

Any device that needs connectivity in remote locations or places without other reliable connectivity uses a SIM for wireless access. Cellular IoT uses cases include fleet and asset tracking, micromobility, heath wearables, connected building technology, etc.
