the correct answer to each of the questions. (1-5)
British family values have evolved significantly over the past century, reflecting changes in
society, culture, and the economy. Traditionally, British families were often large, with multiple
generations living under one roof, and the father was typically the primary breadwinner while the
mother took care of the home and children. However, modern British families come in all shapes
and sizes, including single-parent families, blended families, and childless couples.
A core value that remains strong in British families is the importance of quality time spent
together. Many families make it a point to have meals together, go on outings, or engage in
recreational activities during weekends and holidays. Celebrations such as Christmas, Easter, and
birthdays are significant events that bring families together, reinforcing their bonds and
traditions.
Respect for individuality and personal space is another crucial aspect of British family values.
While togetherness is encouraged, it's equally important for family members to respect each
other's privacy and personal time. This balance helps maintain harmony and understanding
within the household.
Education and self-improvement are highly valued in British families. Parents often emphasize
the importance of education and encourage their children to pursue higher studies and personal
development. This focus on education is seen as a means to secure a better future and enhance
one's quality of life.
Moreover, British families are increasingly supportive of gender equality and shared
responsibilities. It is now common for both parents to work and share household chores and
childcare duties. This shift reflects broader societal changes towards more equal and inclusive
family dynamics.
As British family values continue to evolve, the underlying principles of love, respect, and
support remain constant. These values not only shape the family unit but also contribute to the
broader community and societal well-being.

the correct answer to each of the questions. (6-10)
Nha Nhac, meaning “elegant music”, refers to a wide range of musical and dance styles
performed at the Vietnamese royal court from the fifteenth to the mid-twentieth century. Nha
Nhac was generally performed at the opening and closing of ceremonies associated with
anniversaries, religious holidays, funerals and so on. Among the numerous musical genres that
developed in Viet Nam, only Nha Nhac is popular on a nationwide scale and has strong links
with the traditions of other East Asian countries. During Nha Nhac performances, there were
numerous singers, dancers and musicians dressed in gorgeous costumes. Large-scale orchestras
included a drum section and many other types of instruments like wind and string instruments.
All performers had to maintain a high level of concentration because they were expected to
follow each step of the ritual carefully.
Nha Nhac developed during the Le Dynasty (1427-1788) and reached the peak under the Nguyen
Dynasty (1802-1945). As a symbol of the dynasty’s power and longevity, Nha Nhac became an
essential part of the court’s many ceremonies. However, the role of Nha Nhac was not limited to
musical accompaniment for court rituals: it also provided a means of communicating with and
showing respect to the gods and kings as well as providing knowledge about nature and the
universe.
The fall of the monarchy and the decades of war in 20th century seriously threatened the survival
of Nha Nhac and made this musical tradition lose its original function. However, the few
surviving former court musicians continue to work to keep the tradition alive. Certain forms of
Nha Nhac have been maintained in popular rituals and religious ceremonies and become a source
of inspiration for contemporary Vietnamese music.

Question 9: According to paragraph 2, which of the following is NOT the role of Nha Nhac? A.
It provided knowledge about nature and the universe.
B. It served as a means of communication with gods and kings.
C. It was used as musical accompaniment for entertainment at court events.
D. It represented the dynasty’s power and longevity.
Question 10: Which of the following is TRUE about Nha Nhac according to the passage?
A. Nha Nhac was introduced to rituals and religious ceremonies in the 20th century.
B. Nha Nhac played a crucial part in court ceremonies and had spiritual functions.

Many people go through life only thinking about their own well-being and that of those around
them. In reality, the well-being of the environment is just as important in certain ways. Without a
healthy and sustainable environment, their own health and ability to leave behind a sustainable
planet to those who live after them is negatively affected. Therefore, two main environmental
benefits can be realised with greener living.
Firstly, people can conserve natural resources. The natural resources that man has been enjoying
are beginning to disappear. Due to population growth, it is estimated that the use of natural
resources has more than tripled since 1970. At that rate, it is not difficult to see how these same
resources will eventually become depleted. It is important to conserve those precious resources
so that others after this generation can enjoy the same quality of living on this planet.
Secondly, people can reduce the harmful effects of climate change. Primarily due to human’s
reliance on fossil fuels over the years, climate change is a real concern. People continue to
release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, further polluting the air. This is leading to dramatic
changes in temperatures that need to be stopped. Greener living aims to do exactly that. For
every person who makes an effort to reduce his or her carbon footprint in the world, climate
change can begin to become less of a concern over time.

Wolves were the original ancestors of dogs. You might mistake a wolf for a dog, but
they're much larger. On top of that, they're pretty scary. Some wolves evolved into different
species at some point. The smaller and kinder ones were among them. The first dogs were these
kinder wolves. When or why this occurred is a mystery. It may have occurred organically more
than 50,000 years ago, according to some. Still others place the human handiwork of 15,000 to
50,000 years ago.
Regardless of their origin, the practicality of dogs was immediately recognized. Human
geneticists and paleontologists agree that dogs and humans first crossed paths in the Middle East
some 13,000 years ago. It wasn't long before dogs made their way to North America from Asia,
Africa, and Europe. Hunting and traveling were likely the primary uses of these dogs. In
addition, They were also good companions.
The ancient Egyptians valued dogs highly. Not only did the Egyptians rely on dogs for hunting,
but they also used them as guards and fighters. To them, a dog represented the deity responsible
for protecting hell. Dogs were also given names by the ancient Egyptians. Names like "Brave
One," "Reliable," "North-wind," "Blacky," and "Useless" were common. The ancient Romans
also used dogs as a weapon. Dogs were utilized by the Roman army across Europe. The dogs
served as messengers at times and as attack dogs at others.
These days, you can find dogs of all shapes and sizes. What gives them their wolf
heritage? Various theories have been put forward. Canidae is a family of dogs, but some
scientists think that dogs actually have ancestry from other animals. The jackals, coyotes, and
foxes fall into this category. The majority of scientists also think that the variation was shaped by
natural selection and evolution. In subsequent epochs, dog breeders sought out dogs that people
liked and crossed them to create new varieties. This is how people are still facilitating the
emergence of new breeds in the modern era!

Most of the time, the Hawaiian Islands make us think of a busy tourist spot with white sand
beaches and palm trees. On one of the farthest northern islands, though, there aren't any guests or
vacation activities. Niihau Island has a volcano that is no longer active, a fragile swamp, and lush
woods. There are also many rare animals that live there, like the Hawaiian monk seal. The
Robinson family bought the island from the King of Hawaii in 1864 with the promise that they
would protect the original Hawaiian culture and language by living there. To keep this promise,
the family started to curb the number of people who could visit the island over time. Today, you
can only talk to the original Niihauans on the island if they invite you. Because of this, the locals
didn't know much about the rest of the world until lately.
The main town of the island looks like it has been frozen in time when you walk through it.
There aren't any cars, stores, bars, or cops. Horses and bicycles are the only ways to get around.
There is no electricity, running water, or phone lines. The 130 people who live
there permanently are all native Hawaiians and speak Hawaiian as their first language. They
fish and farm for a living and don't pay rent. People who live on the other Hawaiian islands have
very different ways of life.
The kids in Niihau don't have TVs or electronics like other kids, but they go to a small
school that gets all of its power from the sun. The school is one of only a few in the US that gets
all of its power from the sun. Hawaiian traditions and ideals about living off the land and ocean
are taught at the school. At the same time, the kids can learn how to use computers and meet
with people from other places.
