Feature b Metal core
Feature c Pontic
Feature d Retainer
2. Name two types of bridges.
-Fixed-fixed bridge
-Adhesive bridge
3. Which material could be used to cement the bridge in place?
-Zinc phosphate
4. List two advantages and two disadvantages for the above material
4.1 Advantage Sets quickly
4.2 Advantage Adhesive to dentine
4.3 Disadvantage Irritant to pulp in deep cavity
4.3 Disadvantage Moisture sensitivity
5. What oral hygiene advice would you give the patient after fitting a crown?
-regular and thorough tooth brushing daily
-use of fluoride toothpaste and medium toothbrush
-regular flossing to clean crown margins interproximal
-careful use of floss so as not to dislodge crown
-sensible diet
-regular use of mouthwash, to reinforce plaque control
- It is important to keep the crown just as clean as you would your natural teeth. The crown itself cannot decay,
but decay can start where the edge of the crown joins the tooth. Brush last thing at night and at least one other
time during the day with a fluoride toothpaste, and clean in between your teeth with ‘interdental' brushes or floss.
- After the permanent crown in place, we recommend that you do not chew very hard things, such as ice and hard
candy. Sticky foods may also loosen your crown, and should be avoided.
6. What other procedures could be used to replace a missing tooth, besides a bridge?
-The missing tooth can be replaced with implant or denture
