Liddell arrested
Candidate for superintendent indicted by Washington County Grand Jury for embezzlement
Noxubee Supt. of Education candidate Roger Liddell has been indicted by a Washington County, Miss. Grand Jury on an embezzlement charge related to missing electronic equipment while he worked there from 1996 through 2009. Liddell, a Macon native, turned himself in to the Washington County Sheriffs Department last Friday in Greenville after learning he had been indicted on the embezzlement charge. Liddell was apparently released shortly after appearing in Greenville. He was back in Macon shortly after lunch Friday. The Greenville Delta Democrat Times reported Sunday that an initial court appearance has been scheduled for Nov. 2 at the Washington County Courthouse. Liddell, who is scheduled to face incumbent Noxubee Supt. of Education Kevin Jones in a Democratic Primary re-do election Nov. 29, is the former longtime principal at Simmons High School at Hollandale. State Auditor Stacy Pickering first announced the results of the investigation Aug. 24 when he issued a letter demanding Liddell pay back $111,581. The actual value of the missing equipment is $73,032, Pickering says. The additional money owed is for investigation fees and interest. Pickering gave Liddell 30 days to pay the money back, and as of Tuesday he still hadnt paid. His bonding company is expected to pay $25,000.

Brooksville fire

Brooksville firefighters responded to a burning mobile home on Phillips Loop about 10 p.m. Monday night. The mobile home, said to be vacant, has been an eyesore for the neighborhood and some of the neighbors speculated the fire was intentionally set to help remove it from the site.

Marshand Crisler knows how to play the race card literally. During a recent campaign visit to Macon, Crisler, the Democratic nominee for Central District Transportation Commissioner, handed out different cards to black and white voters. Crisler, who will meet Republican incumbent Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall in the Nov. 8 General Election, used his dual card system to try to deliver separate messages for CRISLER whites and blacks, including a challenge to black voters that claims the Central District is now majority Democrat and majority African American Its simple, if we show up we win. Numerous retail outlets in Macon were given a stack of cards for their store counters - the versions handed out to whites. nSee Crisler on Page 5

nCrisler playing the race card

nContinued from Page One The separate campaign messages are not found on Crislers website. The Beacon attempted to contact Crisler for an explanation, but at presstime Tuesday the candidate still hadnt tried to contact the paper. Crisler, on the card he handed to blacks, promised to increase minority participation in MDOT contracts, but that message isnt found on the card handed to whites. The card given to black voters also urges vote for change and to elect a true Democrat. Jennifer Hall, a spokesman for the Hall campaign, said they were not aware of the separate cards being handed out by Crisler. Youve got to be kidding, she said when contacted by The Beacon Tuesday. Crisler is a former Jackson city councilman and an unsuccessful candidate for Jackson mayor.

This is the campaign card that Marshand Crisler handed out to white voters during his recent visit to Macon.
