Critics Consensus

Despite having a cast and crew of comedy all-stars on hand, Jackpot! provides little payout thanks to a puerile script and erratic pacing.

Elizabeth Weitzman TheWrap Feig's primary influences seem to be "Idiocracy," "The Purge," and Looney Tunes--and he is undoubtedly correct in assuming that this unholy mix will hit some people’s sweet spot. Sep 27, 2024 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) An action-comedy that lacks intoxicating fight scenes and genuine punchlines, this feature is less than the sum of its parts even as it turns Los Angeles’ make-or-break culture into a dystopian murder game. Colin E Will it win any awards? No.... but it is genuinely fun. It is Looney Tunes slap stick fun. So to heck with the pretentious critics. Sometimes fun is.....well F.U n. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/13/24 Full Review Jenaro V Es una especie de parodia (mala) de The Purge, logra sacarte algunas risas pero no más. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/12/24 Full Review Audience Member Crazy film with crazy storyline never a dull moment LOVED IT Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/07/24 Full Review Cesar S I can't understand all the hate about this film, I thought the action scenes and humor were very good and aligned. It pleasantly surprised me! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/28/24 Full Review Nicole T John Cena is one of the few comedic/action stars that I will tune into because he is always entertaining, even with subpar material. I love dystopian socities with deadly games and even the worst of this sub-genre at least attempt to provide context and world building to host their hackneyed vision of the future. Jackpot offers no such lip service to the audience. They essentially skipped over any exposition to give us the bare essentials to understand the reasoning behind this deadly lottery. And although Cena is by far the best part of the film and the only reason I gave it two stars, we are given very little to understand why he is driven to be the only "good guy" unwilling to committ murder for billions (though his business plan of protecting lottery winners has to have made him one of the richest billionaires on the planet, so he doesn't especially need the money). I am glad they didn't force a romance between Awkwafina and Cena, which would have come across as very forced. Worth a mindless watch while doom scrolling, but not much else. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/25/24 Full Review Lloyd S Not funny and boring. Story isn't engaging at all, just dumb. Seemed that the movie was made to keep people away from LA. Anyway, aquakwafina or whatever her name is, is so awful in every movies, bad acting and extremely annoying voice. She speaks like someone punched her in throat. Choked annoying voice. Can't recommend, but feel free to give it a try if you have time to waste. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/24/24 Full Review Read all reviews
