100, 000 euros seized in French illegal downloads raids

A network of illegal internet downloading was dismantled, announced the public prosecutor in the southern French town of Aix-en-Provence on Tuesday. A 19 year-old man is currently being investigated along with two others and 100,000 euros seized near Marseille.

The owner and administrator of the site was questioned on charges of counterfeiting with an organised group and money-laundering profits from the site.

His site has been shut down.

He may be sentenced to at least five years in prison and a fine of 500,000 euros.

This incident has resulted in three other inquiries led by the financial and cyber crime division of the Marseille special police force. Nearly 100,000 euros have been seized, according to a police source.
