Victorian Marcasite and Art Glass Highly Engraved Sterling Silver Ring - Mourning Ring - Wonderful Large Statement Ring from 1800's!

Victorian marcasite, art glass cabochon and sterling silver statement ring, perhaps originally a mourning ring! This ring appears to be from the latter part of the 1800's and per the gemologist was typically worn with those high collared long black dresses of the period that one sees in old photos and many times as a mourning ring (also known as a memory ring). It is a large piece with the crown measuring approximately 25 mm by 19 mm. and rising a comfortable 7.5 mm from the finger to the very top. It is a striking statement piece on the hand! This ring is beautifully engraved, the underside of the crown has amazing details, please see photos! It holds a bezel set faceted blue glass cabochon that has some typical abrasion due to the ring's advanced age, but in person they are much less noticeable than in the very close up photos. The color is most true to the pictures shown on the hand, at least on my computer. You will be pleased, it is just beautiful. There is a fabulous display of natural marcasites that really sparkle beautifully over the milgrain detailed scalloped outer frame. The marcasites, glass, and silver have been verified by a gemologist. Inside the shank is stamped "STERLING". The shank is slightly wavy, see the photos, and when taken in to the jeweler he believed it was designed and crafted that way and did not need to be adjusted. Some tarnish remains on the ring and I will keep this as it is. The silver could be polished up if desired but in my opinion the tarnish that is within the engraving should be carefully left as it makes the beautiful engraving really stand out. Certainly a buyer's choice. Imagine a woman wearing this piece with her long black dress, her hat held on with a hat pin while riding in a horse drawn carriage/buggy or walking cobblestone streets.
