Katie Whitehead | Sharing Fun Phonics Games on Instagram: "Climb and Complete A simple variation on the classic word ladder. Move a magnetic letter up the ladder, completing and reading the words. A great way to really focus children on identifying and recalling digraphs and split digraphs in words including the alternative graphemes for the same phonemes. I focused here on the letter 'e' as it makes up lots of digraphs and split digraphs across Phase 3 and 5 (ee, ea, ie, ue, oe, ew, a-e, e-e, i-e, o-e, u-e). I wrote a word in each space of the ladder, missing out the letter 'e' and replacing it with a star sticker. You could use any image to indicate a missing letter. My star stickers nicely matched the colour of the magnetic letter I put out to use on the ladder.
