Formerly named 'Hammer' during 1970, the Southern rock musical ensemble from Jacksonville, Florida decided to change their name to 'Blackfoot' to represent the American Indian heritage of band members ( part Cherokee, part Sioux, and part Eastern Creek; a Florida Indians tribe).
