Anne Niebch | Wedding Flower Preservation Artist on Instagram: "Why flood coat? I don’t always top coat or flood coat but based on the project it may need it. Most common reasons are that there is a piece of lint or petal cured in the top layer. Or, the resin was filled and flooded over the sides leaving a thick edge layer. I personally don’t like that so I sand the top and sides to give it a polished look. Why not use all the different grits and polish? I just don’t like to do it. I’d rather sand and flood or top coat. The only reason to polish is if you are using older molds or just want to shine up the block. I personally don’t like putting polish on my finished pieces. It doesn’t mean it’s wrong, just my preference as an artist. My normal grit I prefer is 220.
