Jens Risom, the man who helped introduce Scandinavian design to America, dies

Danish-American furniture designer Jens Risom passed away this month on December 9 in New Canaan, Connecticut at the age of 100.

How Jens Risom Created a Taste for Mid-Century Danish Design

When Jens Risom immigrated to New York from Denmark in the late 1930s, he was shocked to discover a lack of modern furniture production in the States. He soon set out to change this, partnering first with Hans G. Knoll, then launching his own firm in 1946. Today, at age 96, he's the last of the mid-century modern legends still alive — and still designing.
