- Full-circle stories.June 17, 2023
🤐 SPOILER ALERT 🤐
After watching the characters of Never Have I Ever change and grow so much over the last four seasons, it’s pretty hard to say goodbye, but also beautiful to imagine them continuing on their journeys. As the show signs off, what could be more cathartic than looking back at how far our favorite characters have come since we first met them? Let’s get nostalgic.
First, travel all the way back to the beginning with the touching video above, which debuted at Tudum: A Global Fan Event in Brazil on Saturday, along with clips from the cast’s auditions tapes, including those of Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Darren Barnet and Jaren Lewison. In fact, that trio was on the ground in São Paulo for the big event.

Next, keep reading below and take a trip down memory lane as we revisit each character’s first and last scenes.
Devi Vishwakumar
First appearance: Season 1, Episode 1
When we first meet Devi, she’s praying for a better high school experience after a tragedy-filled freshman year. Her requests of the gods include: being invited to a party with hard alcohol and drugs, thinner arm hair and a boyfriend (not a nerd, someone from a sports team, even if he’s dumb).
Last appearance: Season 4, Episode 10
The final time we see Devi, her prayers have been answered — sort of. She’s got the boyfriend she wanted so badly; it’s Ben Gross, who isn’t a jock, dumb or otherwise, but was her academic rival before becoming her lover. Devi has accomplished her dream of getting into Princeton and now she’s enjoying the fruits of her labor, cozying up with Ben in her dorm room, looking happy and in love.
Paxton Hall-Yoshida
First appearance: Season 1, Episode 1
Immediately introduced by narrator John McEnroe as “the hottest guy at Sherman Oaks High,” Paxton’s first scene features him swimming as Devi appreciates his appearance. She’s so enamored with him that, months after becoming paralyzed following the traumatic death of her father, she regains the use of her legs when she unconsciously stands up to ogle at Paxton outside a supermarket.
Last appearance: Season 4, Episode 10
The final time we see Paxton, the depth and drive beneath his surface is on full display. He’s seen studying in the library at Arizona State University –– the college he briefly left after not immediately fitting in, but ultimately built up the courage to return to.
Ben Gross
First appearance: Season 1, Episode 1
Ben is introduced by the narrator as “Devi’s nemesis” while befittingly flashing her a disgusted look in class. This sets the tone for their dynamic in the show: the two have been in academic competition since the first grade.
Last appearance: Season 4, Episode 10
In Ben’s final scene, he’s pretty much doing the opposite of giving Devi a dirty look — he’s getting into bed with her to cuddle and watch a movie. Ben has achieved his dream of attending Columbia University, and now he’s able to make the short trip over to visit his girlfriend Devi.
Fabiola Torres
First appearance: Season 1, Episode 1
Fabiola, introduced as “captain of the high school robotics team,” is first seen with her best friends Eleanor and Devi. She’s pushing Devi’s wheelchair as the gang walk the halls of Sherman Oaks High.
Last appearance: Season 4, Episode 10
In Fabiola’s final scene, she’s reveling in all her nerd glory, working on robotics in a Howard University laboratory with robot bestie Gears Brosnan at her side.
Eleanor Wong
First appearance: Season 1, Episode 1
Eleanor, our favorite thespian, makes her first appearance alongside Fabiola in the same scene. Eleanor is introduced to us as “president of the drama club,” and boy, is she dramatic.
Last appearance: Season 4, Episode 10
Eleanor’s final scene features her doing what she loves, performing. Not only is she acting in a very exciting-looking spy thriller, she’s also the one who yells “Cut!” meaning she’s on track to be the next great actor-director.
Trent Harrison
First appearance: Season 1, Episode 2
Technically, the first time you see Trent is in the background during Episode 1, when he can be spotted goofing around with Paxton, but his first real scene comes in Episode 2. Once again, he’s goofing around, this time at the Hot Pocket during lunch.
Last appearance: Season 4, Episode 10
The final time we see Trent, he’s hard at work on set with his girlfriend Eleanor, triggering the explosion for the scene she’s filming before the aspiring Hollywood power couple celebrates the shot they just pulled off.
Kamala Nandiwadal
First appearance: Season 1, Episode 1
We first see Devi’s older cousin Kamala running to give Devi her lunch, her mere appearance causing a biker to crash. That’s the outwardly sweet, stunningly attractive Kamala, of whom Devi is slightly jealous.
Last appearance: Season 4, Episode 10
Kamala has come a long way, and Devi has grown to appreciate her. The last time we see Kamala, she’s moved to Baltimore for work, and is all smiles as she grabs ice cream with her boyfriend, Manish.
Nalini Vishwakumar
First appearance: Season 1, Episode 1
We first see Devi’s mother, Dr. Vishwakumar, feeling timid in a flashback to 2001, when the family first moved to the US. She’s quite on edge given the climate in the country at the time.
Last appearance: Season 4, Episode 10
In her last scene, Dr. Vishwakumar –– who has been through so many ups and downs with Devi –– finally looks at home and at peace as she has a laugh and a chat over some wine with contractor-turned-romantic interest Andres.
Nirmala
First appearance: Season 2, Episode 2
Nirmala is first seen taking care of her daughter-in-law, Nalini, pampering her with a meal and a head massage. Wanting to be closer to her family after the loss of her son, she moves into the Vishwakumar home shortly thereafter.
Last appearance: Season 4, Episode 10
In Nirmala’s final scene, she’s at her own wedding, pulling Paxton away from a conversation with Devi, insisting that he “owes the bride a dance.”
Eric Perkins
First appearance: Season 1, Episode 2
Eric is first seen interrupting orchestra practice, comically insisting that the classroom smells so strongly of poop, he cannot play his tuba.
Last appearance: Season 4, Episode 9
In Eric’s final scene, he’s with the Sherman Oaks Robotics Club, pitching his fanny pack charging station to the Head of Robotics at Howard University. Despite Eric’s confidence, his project doesn’t garner much attention.
Dr. Jamie Ryan
First appearance: Season 1, Episode 1
Child psychologist Dr. Jamie Ryan is first seen encouraging the grief-stricken Devi her to write in a journal. Throughout the series, she continues to be upfront and honest with Devi, and pivotal to her growth.
Last appearance: Season 4, Episode 9
In her final scene, Dr. Ryan tells Devi that she’s proud of her and assures her that she can accomplish anything she puts her mind to. It’s emotional and appropriate just before Devi heads off into the next phase of her life — college.
