We aim to create globally aware problem-solvers ready to define the future of industry, government and the public sector.
Our researchers work hand in hand with partners in South East Asia and Oceania. They’re able to achieve sustainable solutions to some of the world’s most challenging problems. This includes informing healthy ageing and monitoring water quality.
We are also proud to work with more than 2,300 students from South East Asia and Oceania at our Newcastle, Singapore and Malaysia campuses. They contribute to our academic excellence and global university community.
Newcastle University in Singapore
In partnership with the Singapore Institute of Technology, we offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at its facilities in Singapore.
Students are also immersed in the hub for research, collaboration and innovation at the Newcastle Research & Innovation Institute (NewRIIS). It focuses on areas such as:
- energy and sustainability
- smart grids
- process safety
- marine technology
- data visualisation
UKRI GCRF Living Deltas Research Hub
We are the only university leading two, multi-million pound flagship UKRI Global Challenges Research Funds.
Newcastle University is leading a research team of 120 members, including 20 academic institutions for the Living Deltas Research Hub. The team will examine and confront significant challenges facing four social-ecological delta systems in:
- Bangladesh
- India
- Vietnam
By approaching these challenges in a transdisciplinary way, researchers are promoting UN Sustainable Development Goals and transforming policy and practice.

UKRI GCRF Water Security and Sustainable Development Hub
Newcastle University also leads the UKRI GCRF Water Security and Sustainable Development Hub.
Together with a wide range of UK and international universities, we are addressing the challenge of water security for all.
The Water Security and Sustainable Development Hub is bringing together leading global experts from:
- academia
- industry
- government
As part of this work, we're helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change, such as drought and flooding. We are also developing new solutions for water management and treatment of wastewater.
The hub is also creating a global network of local water collaborations using a transdisciplinary co-production approach.

Strategic partnership with Monash University
The Newcastle-Monash strategic partnership delivers world class research outputs and student experiences. Both universities are able to combine their complementary strengths. This ranges from biomedical sciences and clinical medicine to energy system digitalisation and cyber security.
The partnership includes:
- a joint PhD programme
- joint workshops and symposia
- an exchange programme between the two universities
Partnership with Universitas Indonesia (UI)
Through our longstanding partnership, students can complete an MRes degree within our Faculty of Medical Sciences. This is aimed at facilitating student mobility for the international classes of Medical and Dental students at UI.
We focus on giving students the skills needed to conduct medical research. This is important to supporting Indonesia and the region's health service.

Newcastle University also works with government ministries and organisations across the region. We promote internationalisation and research collaboration.
We are a proud partner of the Indonesian International Student Mobility Award scheme. This is in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Kampus Merdeka in Indonesia. We welcome the opportunity to deliver a global study experience to undergraduate students from across the country.

International Coalition of Sites of Conscience
We have a strategic partnership with the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience (ICSC).
We’ve placed student interns at several ICSC member sites, including Youth for Peace in Cambodia. Students actively promote social justice and a universal culture of human rights. They work to:
- empower marginalised communities
- counter hate speech and violent extremism
- preserve the memory of victims of human rights violations
