University of Hawai‘i Delegation Visits NAOJ

On August 7 and 8, 2024, a delegation of the University of Hawai‘i, including Vice President for Research and Innovation, University of Hawai‘i System, Vassilis Syrmos, visited NAOJ Mitaka Campus.

Vice President Syrmos and others received an overview of NAOJ’s operations from NAOJ Director General, Mamoru Doi. Afterwards, they exchanged opinions and discussed possibilities for future research and technical cooperation between the University of Hawai‘i and NAOJ with Specially Appointed Professor of the National Institutes of Natural Sciences, Saku Tsuneta, and Director of the Subaru Telescope, Satoshi Miyazaki, along with other attendees.

During the two days visit to NAOJ, the participants viewed the ultra-precision machining of high-sensitivity sensors, ALMA receivers, and instrument components for the Subaru Telescope at the Advanced Technology Center and also viewed the interferometric gravitational wave antenna TAMA300.

They also had a lively exchange of views with researchers from space missions in which NAOJ is involved.
