Beautiful week. The fall colors here are absolutely amazing. I have to drive back around blocks just to take photos of trees decked out in beautiful fall colors. My maples have started to turn but are not in full color as yet– should happen this week. Stop to look at the trees!
We got everything home from Smithfield but still have seven boxes to unpack. 3rd Sunday Market is today but just cannot unload, unpack, repack and reload in one week! Love 3rd Sunday Market and Love Spoon River, too.
Got my Ameren bills this week. Have three at the antique store buildings on the square and one for my house. I read my bills and I save credit card receipts to check against bills too! I was surprised to find a new $21.30 charge on the gas portion of my bills under the heading LICA-low-income credit adjustment. Called Ameren and CUB. Ameren said it was state mandated and that I had to pay it. That is a chunk when one has multiple Ameren bills. I suspect that there are a lot of people paying their gas bill that will have trouble affording and extra $21.30 per bill. To put that in prospective, I had a gas bill of $71.45 on just one building and used NO gas at all at that building.
Busy week besides unloading my van, got my hair cut, moved lots of plants into the garage, did book work from Spoon River, looked unsuccessfully for the comet, attended the Hancock County Historical Society meeting, the Antiques and Collectible Club meeting and more.
I got a new twist for a scam on Facebook messenger this week. Got a message from a person supposedly in Texas who was an artist and wanted to use some of my photos in their work. Told me they would pay me $500 for the use of the photos. Hmm. Asked about one with Mike Wolfe in it and I said “no” as he might not approve. Kept sending messages. I knew that soon I would be asked for bank routing numbers etc. so that the money could be sent to my account. Blocked the person. You must be suspect of anything that seems too good to be true on the internet. The number of scams is endless and new ones are thought up every day.
Told you I had head congestion so got a COVID test and it came back positive so though the doctor said I should isolate for five days; I did for 11 or 12. Last night I stopped at a fast-food restaurant on the way to the historical society meeting. Wished that I had not! The person working the counter did a half dozen huge sneezes and I could hear sneezing and coughing from the cooks, too. Oh dear.
Got a call from a friend yesterday. They had had serious health problems and nearly passed. One thing mentioned was a time we walked around town on a crisp fall evening. That was a wonderful memory for that person. We never know when a simple act will be important to another person. Be kind. It may seem okay to be mean or say unkind things in this election year, but it is not. Take a few minutes, text or call that friend, send a photo or just reach out. You may not know how much of an impact you may have on someone who just needs a kind word or act.
Scatter Kindness and Love. Really work at it this week!
