Know All About PM Awas Yojana

PM Awas Yojana, or Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana , is a government housing scheme launched by the Central Government on June 25, 2015 . The scheme is still underway, with several houses being sanctioned and constructed at different intervals. In the Union Budget 2024, the government has sanctioned three crore new PMAY houses nationwide. PMAY Gramin and PMAY Urban are two segments of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Both PMAY segments have eligibility criteria based on different income groups, including EWS (Economically Weaker Section), LIG (Lower Income Group), MIG I, and MIG II (Middle Income Group).

PM Awas Yojana Eligibility Criteria
The PMAY Housing Scheme offers affordable homes for the homeless based on income criteria. As per the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, an applicant from a family where no member owns a pucca house across India is eligible. A PMAY applicant can be a husband, a wife, or an unmarried son or daughter. A married daughter or son can be treated as a different household.

PMAY Urban : 118.64 PMAY urban houses had been sanctioned, and about 86.77 lakhs had been completed. The central government invested about Rs. 2 lakh Crore, of which Rs. 1,64,905 Crore has been released.
PMAY Gramin : Against the total target of building 32624214 houses fixed by the government of different states, 26590226 houses have been completed.
With the financial assistance provided by the central government, PMAY houses are constructed. Additionally, these beneficiaries receive a credit-linked subsidy scheme and can easily obtain home loans. The government provides all the basic amenities and facilities to homeowners in the houses built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Earlier, the last date of application for the PM Awas Yojana Scheme was 31st March 2022, However, the government has now extended it to 31st December 2024.
